I would rather burns talk shut for making a tackle than him being like every other player looking sad and depressed that they just gave up a TD. At least he gives a frick and it trying to make lemonade out of the bag if shite we had on defense.

I've never quite understood celebrations, every after a great play.

Sure, pump a fist, but when guys celebrate too much, it makes me think they're surprised they made a play.

They're on scholarship at an elite football school. They're SUPPOSED to make plays.

Act like you've been there before.

I caught on to Burns being soft and slow at processing the game several years ago. I’m not trying to crap on the kid, but he is NOT LSU starter level and never has been. He should be nothing but a backup. And it’s disconcerting the trend we see of coaches in recent years elevating players that we’ve seen do nothing but be a liability on the field for years, to crowing about them being “leaders” and the best of our players. Just because of their seniority on the team, not because of talent or ability. I understand how coaches want to portray senior players as pillars of the team to help their draft status as much as possible… but it’s disingenuous.

Truth is, Burns is not light enough on his feet to recover and make a solid tackle after he overcommits and gets put on skates. When he does make contact, it isn’t solid most of the time, he has trouble diagnosing plays and knowing where he needs to be, he sucks in coverage and tries to compensate by keeping space between him and receivers - all that does is create easy completions. RARELY do we see him being confident enough to jump a route. When he does, his instincts are usually wrong and he ends up getting burned. Also he’s not fast, violent, or maneuverable enough to cause QBs to hesitate to throw into tight windows or RBs to stutter step and lose momentum. They just run right through him.

Again, Im just making an honest assessment of what I’ve seen. Got nothing against him. Just know he doesn’t belong as a starter or especially a star player. And if he’s the best we got, our D is TRULY trash (it is).

Just call what's happening and give the yardage after.

When he is used near the box he is pretty good. Playing in a lot of space is his enemy. If he was bigger he could be a good WLB.

That'll be baker and staffs biggest hurdle.

I don't really call this a hurdle. It's his primary job and I think he'll do it well.

I hear you, but I still think he has a shot to be above average this season with Baker and Co. coaching... we shall see.

Why do you say untapped? He has been here for 4 yrs now

It will be interesting to see how he plays with a better team and staff around him. I could never tell if he was problem or solution last season. Bad coaches, scheme, and fellow players make everyone look bad. If he just has to do his assignments maybe he will be a world beater.

He’s more hybrid linebacker at this point than safety. He’s a good tackler and decent in coverage around the line of scrimmage but he struggles in the open field once players get to full speed and is a huge liability in coverage and struggles makings plays on the ball downfield.

No! He is not a good tackler. He takes bad angles and doesn’t have the hips or speed. I thought he had some potential at first then he had his neck injured. Now he his not aggressive enough until the play is over. He isn’t good enough to talk shite. Standing over someone is so classless. I wouldn’t play him on special teams.

You would think all the military discipline from the war would make him better all around. Stink fish pot!

He is not a good player. I appreciate that he hustles and seems like a good dude, but he is not a good safety.

He’s not draftable, and will not be on any active NFL roster at any point. He takes bad angles and is not a good tackler.

I appreciate him playing hard though.

Burns was the best player in the secondary this season. He led the team in total tackles and solo tackles. It’s never a good sign when a safety is your leading tackler, but that’s not his fault. I do agree he has some untapped potential and could be in for a
Great year.

I think Burns is a better player than he showed. He plays his arse off. Hopefully Baker will be able to help him.

My sentiments, EXACTLY, Menatiger. When he actually does make a tackle he gets knocked back or drug back. LB? Give me a break. He is waaay too soft and lite in the pants to play LB!??
