Why in the hell did he take Walker out? Freaking pitch count has got to go, if Walker is throwing bullets then leave him in. Bullpen looks like crap.

Walker pitched 105 pitches. That's enough for now.

Maineri played it right with Newman who can only pitch one inning now and then Gilbert. Gilbert just made a few mistakes.

He was over 100 pitches. I don't have a problem pulling him. Why he didn't pull Gilbert, who wasn't locating well and clearly didn't have his best stuff, I have no idea

Agreed. No issues with taking out Walker at the time. It was pretty obvious from the jump that Gilbert didn't have it today though.

Gilbert has been lights out. Who else should have pitched the 9th? I'm a feminiari hater but he made the right call. Gilbert was just throwing beach balls. The hitting is still the biggest issue. 4 hits is pretty weak.

Walker is 19 years old and pitches once a week. He could have gone longer

No problem with putting Gilbert in - but it's an SEC series - if you want to win, have a backup ready in case your guy is off, so if you see him put 2 guys on base, you have an option. Slow it down; talk to the guy, start the 9th with someone in the pen warming up. Act like you want to win, Paul!

Tough to watch the game for 3 hours winning, and losing in the final 7 minutes

that's my only issue. relief pitchers don't have time to recover from a bad start like starting pitchers do. they simply don't have time to "settle in". their job is to get a few outs and NOT WALK ANYBODY.

the way his team hits, we need the best bullpen in baseball to win games. they get a lead and then go ice cold.

this is the most disappointing team I have seen in a long time. multiple batting slumps, esp at the top of the order, no lead off batter worth a shite, a very inconsistent bull pen, and an unbelievable inability to score runs. when we have a guy on base, he's gonna die there the vast majority of the time. it is inexcusable how seldom we get a hit with a guy in scoring position or how we can't score a guy on third with less than 2 outs by hitting a simple sacrifice fly (or even a grounder to the right side of the infield).

did it take 7 minutes for those last 3 out? long inning for the Tigers these days...
hitting, or the lack of is the problem...but Gilbert is not a closer from the times I have seen him the last 2 yrs...
