We are flying into Madison Thursday afternoon. Madison >>> Milwaukee by a mile

Staying downtown. Everything you want is in walking distance. Some great restaurants and bars all right next to campus on and off State Street

Madison is more like BTR a big little town- not much to do

Outside of the number of farm-to-table restaurants and bars/lounges, there's an abundance of recreational activities to do in/around Madison.

Just to name a few...

- Situated along two lakes, plenty of opportunities to go boating, kayaking, canoeing, etc.
- Madison is renowned for its bike trails. The League of American Bicyclists gave Madison Platinum status for its trails. Madison is only one of four cities to receive this status.
- Farmers Market around Capitol Square every Saturday.
- Concerts on the Square weeknights during the summer.
- Wisconsin Union Terrace events weeknights/weekends (i.e. movie screenings, live music
- Olbrich Botanical Gardens, Vilas Zoo, Wisconsin Arboretum, Wisconsin Lakeshore Preserve, and a number of museums all within the immediate downtown area.
- Directly outside of Madison is excellent hiking and camping at Devils Lake and Governor Nelson State Park.

There is a reason Madison is popularly listed as one of the best college towns + places to live in the country.

Appleton, hands down. Plenty of bars and places to eat. Close to GB. Forget that long drive.
