I made this for another forum I am a member of, but I wanted to share it here.

It is kind of amazing what the perception of the head coach does to "experts" outlook on our season.

Used 247 team rankings.

Average class ranking 2015 - 2018

LSU - 7.25

Schedule:
Miami - 17.25
SE LA - NA
Auburn - 9.5
La Tech - NA
Ole Miss - 20.75
Florida - 14.5
UGA - 4
MSU - 24.25
Bama - 2
Ark - 30
Rice - NA
A&M Faggies - 14.75

They do a roster talent comparison using individual player ratings too. Helps incorporate attrition, etc.

A lot more goes into it than who the coach is.

So you’re saying we have the talent to win 10 games but we’re only expected to win 7 because of who the head coach is?

I agree

What teams out talent us that you dont agree with?

Outside of Bama and UGA, which is obvious, AU??

I believe we have the talent to win 10 for sure. I would say we have the talent to win all games, but I clearly dont think it likely based on not knowing what our QB play will look like yet.

The class ranking argument is kind of vague because we have players like Foster Moreau who outplay their class rankings

This is clear.

For YEARS, the narrative has been “LSU is a quarterback away”. Yes the schedule is tough, but this shows that our talent is better than everyone on our schedule, and not too far behind UA and UGA. I just don’t believe that there is a drastic difference from #1 to #7 annually in recruiting.

If Burrow turns out to be on par with year 2 Mettenberger, I don’t buy the “train of excuses” coming from the BR media and Orgeron.

It’s far past time for LSU to run a balanced offense that can beat you through the air or on the ground. If that is the case, then CEH, Brosette, and Curry should be a more than capable RB rotation to complement a solid attack through the air.

Stop the damn excuses and WIN! Rant over...

Its not perfect and other teams have good 3*'s etc that have steeped up, but it does give us a base to judge things.

While we have missed on high rated players, generally, LSU out-talents most teams and that is the case this year IMO.

That in no way means we win those games. Plenty of teams have beat us over the years with low recruiting rankings.

None of that matters.you can have 1 great class of skill players and 3 that are ranked in the 40’s of that are heavy trench guys and dominate to championship level.
As long as the linemen are before that class. Those positions take time to mature for the most part.
Or you can have a class of top talent at all positions with all 25 schollies and win their freshmen year with a good coach. We have seen freshmen QBs win championships.

It is all about filling needs.

this is also from 24/7:

Shea Dixon

In this story, numbers on each recruiting class. One that stings? The 2015 class, where 39% of the signees have already transferred or been dismissed.

From the 2014-2016 classes, only 32 signees (44%) remain on the team right now.

Overall talent level at LSU hasn’t been the question. Poor QB play, subpar coaching philosophy, and players leaving early have all contributed to fewer wins.

True to form, here enters Tiger Ree to suggest that CEO's lousy 2018 record will be Les Miles' fault and will need another 2 years.

OK, so what teams would you move past LSU on talent based on the schedule this year?

True to form another poster on this board makes up shite in his mind and believes it.

I read the first post in this thread and saw the mention of 24/7 and average rankings. I saw the Shea tweet yesterday when searching for something else.

I am not suggesting anything. Take the info for what it is or ignore it, I don't care.

Relative to this discussion, you posted facts that seemingly disagree with what I posted. Therefore, who on our schedule "out talent's" us based on the information you linked?

What's your point? Are you saying the "experts" outlook is off base?
