Can we just appreciate Jayln Patterson for a second? Young man went out there and got 11 points and 3 steals and was playing some lights out defense. This kid plays like a senior already.

Patterson has been the surprise, IMO. He has been steady and reliable.
Zero turnovers. I noticed in earlier games, When he enters the game the turnovers drop.

He's looked solid since game one. For a guy who was kind of considered a "throw in" from the recruitment of Simmons, he has easily been LSU's best freshman. He's earned the opportunity to get more minutes as the year goes on.

Also, while I think this team fails to make fundamental plays far too often, you have to give credit when they do things well. The FT shooting has been outstanding this season. Simply put, LSU isn't 8-2 without it. FT shooting will HUGE in close SEC games. Hopefully they can keep it up

He's looked pretty awful in quite a few games with airballs not being uncommon. I can't agree he's looked solid since game 1 but it is nice to see him to starting to get his feet under him.

he's scored 11 or more points in half the games this season as a six man...

This team looks great when teams play up-tempo (UMass, West Virginia) but struggle in the half-court when teams play slow (Clemson, UAB). Unfortunately they will see a lot of slow tempo games in the SEC

The Clemson loss was an anomaly from what we've seen lately. Zero for 13 from 3 will pretty much get you a loss every time. These guys can score in the half-court. I agree that teams will continue to try to slow things down because they're at the height of their game when pushing tempo; especially keying off of shot blocks and steals. With Martin finding his shooting touch, they have four guys in the game most of the time who can drain open three's. This team is getting better. LSU defeated AUB on their own floor by similar scores that Florida and UCLA won by on a neutral court.

I think other than a couple of airballs he has looked solid, but on the other hand he's never really done much of note either.

Last night he did.

CJJ put it perfectly about Patterson. He goes out there, does what he's supposed to do, doesn't screw up, and plays hard. However, he also takes almost no chances or risks...which is good, but sometimes you need a guy who can create and make something happen.

But he has been very steady, and when he's a senior he's going to be an amazing player. We haven't had a 4-year solid contributor in a long time

Hmmm? Very good assessment.

I agree with this statement. Our team; however, appears to have a lot of guys often taking chances often and playing out of control at times and not enough solid fundamental non-turnover guys. I agree that he has been a great influence on the team. Considering he's a freshman, I wouldn't be surprised if the aggressiveness develops over his career. I'm really looking forward to the future. If Quarterman and Patterson continue to develop, we might have sick guard play to go along with Simmons once he's here. Hopefully Martin and/or Mickey stick around to try and make a run at the championship.
