re: LSU vs. Alabama in the QB department, Nick Saban holds the key!

Passing stats from ESPN and Bama online:
2012 (redshirt soph): 10 games, 5-10 77yards 0td/0int
2013 (redshirt Jr.): 8 games, 18-29, 167 yards 2td/0int
2009 (HS Senior): 150-224, 2288 yards. (rushing 115/865)
Looks like a typical dual threat QB to me coming out of HS. Bama had him at RB for his true freshman and redshirt freshman years, but the whole "he's a running back" theme is way overblown. He played QB in HS and was McCarron's top back up for two years. The real shock was how effective he was when given the chance to start, and a lot of that credit has to go to Kiffin.

Great point! I always go back to Perriloux. Seems like the un staggered veteran to freshman starter began with him. But at the same time, we all were screaming for les to get Jennings some actual football time in games in 2013. But we played down to the competition and couldn't get him in. And when he did get in, he handed the ball to the rb more than pass.

For the record, Saban does not hold the "secret" or the "key" to QB production. It's common knowledge that QBs get better with experience/years. Only morons say that a QB has "it" or not.
Miles was hamstrung on arrival to LSU in 2005. He had no QB signees from 2004, and he had no QB commits for 2005. (Thanks Saban!) He was "fortunate" to sign Perrilloux. Crowton did not work on developing QBs, but Lee and Jefferson got better year over year anyway.
Miles has had terrible luck at recruiting QBs.

Sims was definitely the backup QB in 2013.

Lmao I make a similar thread and get hammered, but this one gets a 50-1 like ratio.
That's the Rant for you.

Since Flynn, we have not had a QB. Yet u people say wait till next year, I just don't think Les has the ability to coach one.

Can we really call Mett an underclassman at that point? He had a lot of game time under his belt albeit at the Juco level but it was still more than some of the "experienced" QBs referenced in the OP. Just my 2 cents
Yeah he got that point wrong. Mett in 2012 was a 4th year player at the time. A year in UGA with Bobo who has a laundry list of great QB play, a year at Butler that shells out QBs with high passing numbers, then a year at LSU before he started.
Mett wasn't too bad. His pocket awareness and his deep passing game were the major problems, but people probably forgot that we lost like 3 OL and Alfred Blue in the 1st half of the season. The WRs also had terrible hands until November. Mett completes a 3rd down pass against Bama and we are likely 12-2 at worst because we would have won the West. I actually think we had the same chance to beat UGA as Bama did and demolish Notre Dame as well.

You are a moron. Go be an Alabama fan. Mett was a really good quarterback after his 4th year of development and his second year in the system...that is in fact the whole point of the OP. It isn't some magical formula, it is the very real and expected result of the experience level of the quarterback.

Yea he was a back up RB is freshmen year and split time between backup QB and RB his sophomore year.

Yea that was really the only outlier, could've gone either way. Funny how that year we had the best record of the listed years.

This is a rare well informed post with a debate based on actual facts...a shocker for this site. Well done.

There is a very clear implication from the OP.
LSU QBs get better with more experience/years.
Or put another way: QBs develop under Miles.

Which boils down to recruiting. I would never let a year go by without getting at least ONE QB recruit. And not a walkon. someone that might actually contribute one day.
Our QB recruiting is basically every two years, and must be a high 4 star or above. There are plenty of 3 star guys that would come to LSU and sit for a couple of years before they get their chance. Thats exactly what happens at other schools.

Then you should be getting Juco guys every year then. Wouldn't that fix the problem?

Keep QB's from transferring. Let them know they will have their shot when they move up in the depth chart in a couple years.
