Early in the year when all your pitchers will be on a pitch count yes those 4 extra innings in one day can be a lot. I'm not sure whether going 7 or 9 is the right thing but that is a justifiable reason to only go 7 to save your pitching staff. They have 5 games next week and then the Houston classic the following weekend.

The pitchers planned to throw today could throw tomorrow and it wouldn't ruin their season or LSU's. If we can't handle 3 full games in 2 days in February, wtf are we even doing?
