So far pretty good start, this past weekend we took 4/5 beating a top ten team in UCLA and a very good ranked UCF team. While we aren't having as hot of a start as last season, I am pretty encouraged by what I am seeing.

Savanna Jaquish looks really good defensively so far this season. She is also looking good at the plate, she has a couple doubles and a homer this season, as she is batting over .500.

Amber Serrett- Probably the biggest standout for us this season. This freshman was an elite recruit out of HS and she is already making an immediate impact. She is batting over .400 with a couple of doubles. She has made some incredible defensive plays as well. After this past weekend, I think she has earned a spot in the starting lineup. I see her playing LF and SS, alternating a bit during the season.

Shemiah Sanchez- Another freshman who looks the part as well. She is college ready at the plate. Just needs more experience. Known for her quick and potent bat, she has been very impressive on D, making some fantastic plays right out the gates. I personally think she will be our second basemen by SEC play. Expect Beth to alternate her and Quinn a little longer though.

Sydney Smith- This freshman pitcher will be a big asset for us down the road. While she gave up a bit of hits last weekend, she was clutch and made some fantastic pitches under pressure. She shows poise and confidence. She will definitely be a factor for us when we get to SEC play. Obviously needs more experience.

Concern:

Defense: I know its only the second week of the season but it should be a concern, as it was somewhat of a problem last season. We have made some fantastic plays but we have made a bit of mistakes, resulting in many unearned runs. I know Beth has been monitoring SS and 2B very closely. Also don't be surprise to see Beth start Serrett as SS at anytime this season and have bell DH. Beth is already working Serrett into that position as well. Constance Quinn is likely the biggest concern, she has 3 errors already. While her bat has been fantastic, her D is a concern. Sanchez and Serrett will definitely step in if defense starts to get shaky. Its early so I am not going to stress much, it will get better.

Lead Off- Griggs and Landry are still trying to get back into the swing of things. We haven't had really any consistency at the lead off postion. I expect it to get better. Due to Landry and Griggs struggling early, we saw Quinn lead off this past weekend. We will still tinker with the lineup as we go, as we should. Need Simmons to get going on offense as well. She has had a slow start, but we know she is a capable at the plate.

We sit at 8-2, good start so far and we see a lot of positives early, especially from this freshmen class. Pitching will definitely continue to get better and the bats will continue to warm up, we just need consistency at the plate.

Tomorrow we take on South Alabama at Tiger Park, they actually are a pretty good team. Will be an excellent test tomorrow, I expect Corbello or Sydney Smith to be in the circle tomorrow before the purple and gold challenge this weekend.

Nice weekend. Didn't get to watch, but it sounds like we're progressing well. Still some things to work on, but I feel good about getting those cleaned up by SEC play. Not quite as hot a start as last year, but this team has the potential to be even better.

Lets all be honest as well, I don't think anyone was expecting as hot of a start as last season. It was unheard of. Feels nice to have a loss early, get the stress out the way, and it showed we can rebound and come back as strong.

Yeah, it was insane, and I think this team was feeling the pressure to beat it during opening weekend, even if they won't say it. Probably contributed in part to the Pacific loss, but then we turn around and run rule them the next day. Great response.

Shes doing ok, she had a few games where she struggled at the plate, but she had some games where she hit well. Its still early though.
