Great start with two run rule shutouts within 5 innings. Pitching and hitting looked very good, obviously theres a little rust to work off but was a great start.

We are some different combinations in the outfield
1. Bourg in center, Griggs in left, Landry in right
2. Serrett in left, Griggs in Center, Landry in right

Bourg made a pretty great sliding grab out in center.
She hit the ball hard, wouldn't drop for her.

Serrett went 2-3 with an RBI.

Jaquish needs to play 3rd base, Kloss looks a little better at catcher.

Hoover pitched well, lost a little focus but it was opening night.

Sydney Smith looked pretty damn good for a freshman, very raw but elite, she is still developing her pitches but she was a strikeout machine earlier. You can see why she was a top elite player coming out of high school. She will definitely be huge down the road.

What stood out most tonight was the play of the freshmen,
I already mentioned Serrett,

Shemiah Sanchez played in both games, she had multiple hits and RBI's including a double!!

Taylor Satchell came off the bench to pitch hit, only to hit a triple that almost was a bomb to center field. Unfortunately I don't see her playing an entire lot due to all the talent this year. But she is definitely going to be a pretty big player eventually.

I thought the freshman hit the ball the best tonight, they came out excited and looked composed, it was natural for them.

The only area of improvement I think is base running.

A little early to have a definitive line up but we will definitely be improved this year.

Kloss will be the catcher and Jaquish will be at 3B. But in tournaments when we play back to back, Jaquish will catch one game. It's too much to ask Kloss to catch both. The only time in conference this may happen is the Florida series because of the Friday DH due to Easter.

From what everyone told me and the couple of innings I did to watch while stopping to eat on my way back to Houston from San Marcos, it was a very positive start!

We're always taking risks baserunning. Even though we got outs doing it I'd say Bell not looking up and forcing SJ out was the only "error".

GREAT reviews from two gurus......Mr. Handicap, I am surprised you were not in B.R.

I think SS will be a really good pitcher, amazing how our freshmen just came out of the blocks with force.

Sorry to have to ask but what happen to Kelsie Selman? She was a great pitcher not on the roster anymore?

Thanks...

Since I'm going on my annual softball pilgrimage to Palm Springs next week and then to Baton Rouge the weekend after, it's too much time away from home for me to keep an eye on my elderly mother. At least we have some good neighbors that keep an eye out for her and will take her to Mass.

I went to see one of my former travel ball players pitch for Oklahoma State at Texas State in San Marcos. It's only a couple of hours so I just drove there and back tonight.

Personally I think the best lineup from practices I have seen and these two games are

Griggs(LF) Bourg(CF) Landry(RF)

Jaquish 3B Bell(SS) Serrett/Sanchez 2B Simmons 1B

Kloss at catcher

I would have Serrett at second, have sanchez and satchell DH. Serrett is the best defensive player on this roster, she is known for her defense.

We will see how quickly some of these players come along

Smith did look good, but let's not set too high of expectations for her out the box. She was facing N Florida, after all. She will be a good pitcher for the Tigers, but I also expect some growing pains along the way.

The freshmen did come out swinging the bat well. But I also expect that as the pitching gets better into the schedule, they'll "normalize". While that girl did have a funky release and a little bit of movement on her pitches, she was still topping out around 50. It's been a while since our sophomores and up have seen stuff like that on any regular basis....at least much longer than the freshmen have. But there is no doubt that this is a great class, as Beth has consistently brought in.

The future is looking great for the Tigers. Next year's class is chock full of studs as well. I'd expect very deep runs in the WCWS for the foreseeable future!

This is correct.

This could be a very special year

New season ticket holder here......started going to games last year, mainly because my daughter is crazy about softball.....I agree with tigerbaits analysts, this team is really good, freshman stole the show, base running was the only "problem" last night

Yes...the only slight complaint that I have had I in the Torina era is that she can be a little over-aggressive sending runners from 3rd and that runners on the bases tend to take too many chances. It bit them a bit last night....a couple of outs on the bases and a couple of plays that should have been outs had the opponent executed better. But overall, I'd rather over-aggression than over-passiveness. I just wish they would reign it in a little sometimes!

Opening night was grand....beautiful weather and plenty of good softball. What they have done to the berm looks great and there were lots of people out there. Just one small glimpse of the freshmen last night gives you confidence in the long term future of the program. I just hope they are all patient this year because there just isn't going to be enough playing time to go around for everyone.

Also appears the overall fitness of the team has improved. Could just be they're a year older, but they look great. Units were on point. First I'd seen those.

While this freshman class is very good, next years is ridiculously talented. Arguably the best class in the country according to some.

We are just too deep this year to see a lot of these younger player, the only players I see playing is Serrett, Sanchez and Smith. Sanchez will likely DH a lot or play 2B.

I heard 2 or 3 of the kids in next years class have had surgeries for 1 thing or another. Labrum(s) maybe?
