Sorry if already posted.

quote:

The pads went on in Baton Rouge, La., as LSU's football team participated in its fourth spring practice Tuesday.

“I liked practice today,” coach Les Miles said. “We are getting better. I like the improvement that some of our young offense and defensive linemen are making. I think we threw the ball extremely well today considering how early we are in spring. It was a good, physical practice. We started well and finished on a good note.”

The guy throwing the ball the best this spring is new starting quarterback Zach Mettenberger. So far, he has really impressed his head coach with both his passing ability and his leadership skills. That's certainly a good thing, considering how much both of those areas were criticized when Jordan Jefferson was under center for the Tigers last season. “He has command of the huddle and it appears that he has anticipation as to where the ball is going,” Miles said. “He’s throwing it pretty well.”

I guess that sounds like some good news [like always] out of spring practice.

.. and "anticipation" is an oh-so refreshing word.

Mett will probably have a lot of folks wondering why he wasn't playing last year.

True. He probably should've started last year.

What did the article say about Elliot Porter at center?

This is no surprise. Everyone knows he was the best QB last year.

Precisely my reaction when I read that quote.

This is so true. Take cover if he absolutely lights it up for the first few games.

Two things:

1. How bad would he have to play for people to not see that he was better than JJ?

2.

he has anticipation as to where the ball is going
He is throwing the ball!!! Shouldn't he know where it is going???

oh and stop listening to Les Miles! His words mean nothing to reporters. Not a knock on Les. Politics man speeches are nothing but politics.

I read it as 'Mr. Mettenburger is doing a fine job so far leading his receivers through windows, as well as making some good reads,' but I agree that it is most likely coach-speak.

Look man, it's early and I'm just looking forward to something positive at the quarterback position, something we haven't had in quite a while. Let me live like a sheep and drink some kool-ade at least until my eyes tell me otherwise.
