LSU basketball coach Johnny Jones has not renewed rising senior Brian Bridgewater's scholarship for the 2016-17 season.

Bridgewater's departure opens up a scholarship spot for Jones and the LSU staff, which could be filled with a late addition to the 2016 class. The Tigers signed five prospects - three from high school and two from JUCO - in the 2016 class, which ranks No. 49 in the 247Sports Team Rankings.

Any graduate transfers left?

I hope Les picks him up, wrong to do this to Bridgewater. At least he was somewhat skilled, there's others that have zilch there.

Hopefully Coach O gives him a call. Best of luck to him.
It should be criminal we haven't parted ways with Malone, unless Bridge did something off the court we don't know about.
I can't watch 30 more seconds of Malone on the court. shite is painful.

If this was strictly a personnel move and not related to a discipline issue, what a crappy way to treat a kid in your program. I didn't like it when he did it Hickey (although there seemed to be some friction there), but certainly not a fan of treating a kid this way strictly to open up a scholarship.

Could Malone be a GPA booster?

#49? Cmon. How much money is this MF'er stealing from LSU?

You can criticize Jones for a lot but he's being paid very little.
He's also got 3 players signed that don't contribute to those rankings because of Juco and international players not counting for as much.

There are highly ranked JUCO players, Arkansas has 3 of them in fact
There's a reason there's not a lot of highly ranked JUCOs though, they generally never pan out

Why is it ok to cut Darcy Malone, but not Bridgewater? Malone is a 7-footer in BB shape. Bridge is 6'4" and too heavy to be effective. Malone is the better bet to be a contributor.

What the hell does this mean? I've seen this point used a few times presumably as some sort of justification for the mediocre job Jones is doing.
What's the argument? Fans should be happy because LSU is getting "more bang for their buck" with Jones (even though that "bang" is wasted talent with mediocre seasons)? Or is the argument that Jones might do a better job if he was paid more? If that's the case, then you are essentially conceding that he is not doing his absolute best at LSU.
Frankly, Jones is highly overpaid. Why? Because no one else would pay him even close to what LSU pays him now. His "market" consist of basically two programs, North Texas and LSU. I suspect LSU could have hired him for literally $1 more than what he was making at N. Texas. The fact that he got an extension and significant raise a few years back was one of the dumbest financial decisions LSU's AD has made in his entire tenure. LSU was only "out-bidding" itself for his services.

Oh the irony. He has the audacity to not renew a scholarship, yet his contract is renewed. Unfricking believeable.

Bridge at 6'4 and overweight is a better rebounder, defender, and even a better scorer than Darcy at 7'.
But that 7' though.

Really? Despite being 8 inches shorter, Bridgewater averaged more points and rebounds than Malone in each of the last two seasons. Malone is 7'0 ft tall and contributes like a guy who is 6'0 ft. When you can't rebound, score or defend at the rim, then being 7'0 ft tall doesn't really mean all that much.

not renewing a scholarship short of being kicked off the team is a dick move, especially for a senior
