LSU (9-3) comes back home after their road loss to Auburn to play their first SEC home game against the University of Florida (11-2) on Saturday at 3pm. Florida comes in ranked #10 in the country. KenPom.com computer ranking has Florida as their #1 team, and their RPI is consensus top 15. They have the 3rd best offensive efficiency in the country thanks to some very impressive shooters and great team ball control. I could tell you everything else they are good at, but the list goes on...

Their two losses came at Arizona and at Kansas State. Against Arizona, Florida allowed a 22-10 run in the last 10 minutes of the game, losing by 1, 65 to 64. Against Kansas State, the Wildcats took the lead 12 minutes in, and never looked back. Kansas State ended the game 7-17 from 3 point land, made 20 free throws, had 11 offensive rebounds, and only 10 turnovers. Florida doesn't turn the ball over very often, so there isn't room for mistakes.

Florida does have some minor injuries. Coach Donovan said Erik Murphy (ribs) and Will Yeguete (knee) won't be 100 percent for weeks. Even so, they beat Georgia at home by 33 in their SEC opener and are very dangerous. It will be imperative that LSU guards their shooters. They have 4 starters shooting over 34% from beyond the arc, and shoot 37.6% as a team (LSU shoots 36.1%).

The Gators only give about 8 players significant minutes. LSU may try to run Florida as much as possible to get some good looks and try to force Florida to tire their legs, especially with Murphy and Yeguete banged up (neither played over 20 minutes against UGA).

Florida is the superior team in this matchup. They have been tested and have done very well. That being said, they have lost two games and it is tough to win on the road. LSU will have to shoot much better than they did against Auburn to have a chance. They will need to rebound well and take care of the ball. It would be very helpful if the Tigers can force Florida into some uncharacteristic turnovers. All this will need to happen for LSU to win the game.

I don't know who is going to be able to stop Patric Young on Florida. While their 3 point shooting is very solid, Young is the rock in the middle and is seriously dangerous. He most recently made his way into the top 10 of Ken Pomeroy's Player of the Year list at 10. Del Peiro has done a better job recently of not getting pushed around but the majority of the work will be put on Johnny O'Bryant. Keeping JOB out of foul trouble will be imperative.

Prediction:
LSU 73, Florida 82

And Im gonna post this picture cause it always makes me laugh:

LSU is having approximately 22 football recruits this weekend, and they plan to attend the LSU basketball game versus Florida. Each player will meet with the football coaches, have lunch, and attend the basketball game which is set to tip off at 3:00pm in the PMAC.

For some of these athletes, this may be their first LSU event. For some it may be their first NCAA Basketball game. So football fans, basketball fans, and LSU fans in general should make it their business to PACK THE PMAC this Saturday to root on the Tigers versus #10 Florida.

The weekend is called "Boys from the Boot" and is an invite only event for football players in the 2014 class (Juniors right now). LSU has yet to receive an instate commitment for the class and expects multiple players to pledge their loyalty this weekend to the Tigers.

While the players know it is not a football game with 92,600 fans, they certainly could be impressed with a great crowd and some intensity. The basketball squad will need the fan support behind them to knock off the Gators, who won their SEC opener by 33.

Those in attendance:

Leonard Fournette, RB, St. Augustine, 6-1 225, (LSU offer)

Cameron Robinson, OT, West Monroe, 6-6 320, (LSU offer)

William Clapp, OL, Brother Martin, 6-4 275, (LSU offer)

Devante “Speedy” Noil, WR, Edna Karr, 5-10 180, (LSU offer)

Laurence “Hootie” Jones, DB, Neville, 6-2 205, (LSU offer)

Garrett Brumfield, OL, University Lab, 6-4 265 (LSU offer)

Donovan Isom, QB, Destrehan, 6-4 230, (No LSU offer)

Trey Quinn, WR, Barbe, 6-0 180, (LSU offer)

Jacory Washington, TE, Westlake, 6-5 215, (LSU offer)

Malachi Dupre, WR, John Curtis, 6-3 180, (LSU offer)

Gerald Willis, DL, Edna Karr, 6-4 275, (LSU offer)

Garrald McDowell, DT, Covington, 6-3 250, (No LSU offer)

Darrel Williams, RB, John Ehret, 6-1 215, (No LSU offer)

Cameron Sims, WR, Ouachita Parish, 6-4 195, (No LSU-offer)

Ricky Gibson, Safety, Marksville, 6-2 190, (No LSU offer)

Sione Palelei, East Ascension, 5-8 180, (No LSU offer)

Anthony Jones, TE, Edna Karr, 6-6 225, (No LSU offer)

Jermaine Roberts, CB, St. Augustine, 5-11 180, (No LSU offer)

Davon Godchaux, DL, Plaquemine, 6-3 255, (No LSU offer)

Kenny Young, LB, John Curtis, 6-1 215, (No LSU offer)

Tae Thibodeaux, DL, Westgate, 6-3 240, (No LSU offer)

We going to need the PMAC to be rocking and play a near perfect game to take this one.

JOB III has to play smart (DONT PICKUP 4 fouls in 15 minutes)
Hickey has to play great defense once again and distribute
Carmouche has to realize early on if they arent going to stop jacking up 10 shots
Del Piero has to own his much shorter guy for the spurts he's in
We have to hit wide open 3's and fricking layups

Need a perfect storm of things to happen :lol

There are no Louisiana commits yet, and this is a Louisiana-centric recruiting weekend.

I hope you are right.

Looking at Florida's losses I think the Tigers have to really work on protecting the ball, rebounding, and hit a few shots.

The rest will play itself out.

I just wish this game happened a week later when school was started back up. Probably would see a much better student showing.

I'll be happy as long as we pack the pmac. This is the best team coming to town this year and there's a chance(albeit very small) that we can beat this team.

100% agree. Would be packed next week, but the schedule didn't work for us this time.

Can you imagine how good the student section would be if we didn't have every single student live out of state and only be within driving distance of lsu during the school year.

I hate the student break excuse. It's a top 10 team, sec opener, and big recruiting weekend for the beloved football team. If students can't show up just admit you suck

I know oncampus living opens today I believe, maybe yesterday, so they can be back on campus. Others should be back getting ready for school anyway.

Just doesn't get advisement in Reveille like it would if it was next week.

LSU should shut off the cable in all the dorms except for one channel that just advertises the game.

if we can force uf to be one dimensional and take care of business at our own end we have a chance. inside out they are dangerous. if they have a cold night shooting, get antsy and start jacking up threes which has doomed some of munster's teams in the past, then that could be our ticket. of course we still have to find a way to consistently score points.

Hit the nail on the head. Really can't let Young go off down low. He is a stud. We need to protect the ball and make some shots. I think we get better shots at home so I am hoping we can knock them down.

Im not sure how much pressing we will do with Florida's shooters, but Florida only turns the ball over 11 times per game. We will need to rebound and keep their possessions to a minimum.

Hopefully the crowd shows up. No reason not to have at least 10K in the PMAC. The game's at 3:00. It will be over at 5:00. No one has to get up "early" to make it to an 11:30 or 12:00 tip. Conversely, the game will be over in plenty of time for everyone to do what they want to do on Sat. night. This is likely the best team LSU will play at home this year (maybe period). Give these guys some support. You can tell on the few occasions that they get it, they really feed off of it. UF is the better team, but LSU's definitely got a "shooter's chance" at home.

I think LSU has a very good shot at winning both of next weeks games against South Carolina and UGA. Starting 0-2 wouldn't be the end of the world.

I still think people will overreact. BUT this is the top team in the SEC. Missouri is up there but still not quite to Florida's level IMO. Keeping it close and getting the team some quality minutes would be sufficient.
