A good friend of mine was an equipment manager in the early 1990's back when Jeff Boss ran the show. I know he wouldn't trade the experience and at the end of it he pretty much had a full ride but I can remember many nights where we were still up drinking after going out and he would be getting up to go to the equipment room. Greg Stringfellow started out as an equipment manager with my friend at the same time and I remain friends with him to this day.

there wasn't when i was in school. but after working on Jeff Boss's crew, you were prepared to take on any EQ job at any level. and quite a few that came through did just that. There are LSU guys running Eq Rooms all around the country.

this wouldn't be an Eq Room thread without including Ferrel Shillings.

Jeff Boss has a "tree" greater than or equal too ANY football coach. His guys are all over the country. Greg S took over for JB when he passed in 2003 and while he (GS) is a bit power thirsty and not always a "nice" guy my nephew enjoyed working there and learned a lot.

I agree...Jeff Boss = wonderful human being
Greg Stringfellow = suffers from a severe case of "little big man" syndrome
No way I could recommend Stringfellow as a supervisor.

I was on Coach Boss' first staff at LSU. I can remember the first day I met him. I had been a manager for a year under Coach Jim Smith after taking a medical hardship with football. Coach Mac told me that I medically couldn't play anymore or anywhere else and that if I wanted LSU to continue to pay for my education, I could be a student manager. Long way to say that Jeff Boss was one of the finest human beings I've ever known. I am blessed to have been in his orbit. An amazing man...

I knew Jeff Boss and agree he was a great man in many ways as evidenced by his influence on so many.
