I like JJ and think he has done a great job recruiting but would have loved for some of the other big name coaches (Barnes, Holland, etc) to be at LSU. On a coaching only scale I think we could have done better especially with so many big names on the open market.

It is hilarious that you mention Rick Barnes who just got fired. Why do you think he got fired? He got the exact same criticisms that people love to use on CJJ.

He had rosters full of, not just NBA drafted players, or even players who had pretty good NBA careers. These were guys who were and or all stars in the NBA.

Lamarcus Alridge, Kevin Durant, TJ Ford, DJ Augustin, etc. He had great role players in addition to the stars. He never lacked for great players or great depth.

But he only went to one final four and two elite eights. Not good enough for UT but good enough for us? If CJJ got us to the elite eight there would be people saying it was his fault we didn't make the final four. If we got to the final four it would be his fault if we didn't win a championship.

Now it looks as if Barnes is going to Tenessee and will be competing directly with CJJ. Let's see who has the best record over the next five years and then judge who is the best coach.

There's only a handful of coaches that have consistently recruited better than what CJJ has shown in his three years here, but there's a large number of coaches that I'd take over CJJ in terms of the product on the court. He's a career .500 coach.

If our goal is to simply make the tournament each year, it is looking like CJJ is going to recruit the talent to get us there. I wouldn't expect much more based on the on-court results from this season.

Coach Jones is on the verge of having the best team in the country and people still aren't satisfied. Wow. Some of you asshats don't deserve a good basketball program.

If y'all haven't figured out what's been happening with LSU basketball then you should look at the magic mirror at Romper Room. Dale Brown and Collis Temple are bringing in the talent. JJ is just the man in the mirror. :deerinheadlights:

He inherited a AWFUL team that had one in comming recruit. In two months he filled the roster and had a solid season. Since then he has improved every year and brought us into the tournament for the first time in forever. He is also bringing in top flight recruits that we couldn't dream about before. He's doing this in 3 short years at a school predominately known for football and baseball. Is he the best x's and o's coach? No, but elite college basketball coaches weren't knocking our door down to come coach at LSU when the hire was made. Basketball isn't like football or baseball, in basketball you can bring in the best recruits and talent and compete for championships based purely on that even with average coaching.

The main thing is he brought excitement back to LSU basketball. That's huge because it was dead, now people are realizing how much fun having a good basketball team is!
