Watching the game last night and specifically the last minute of the game I was a tad bit upset w LSU's defense. They let Ole Miss have 2 straight quick layups w/o even contesting the dribbler. Mickey took care of that crap on the last meaningful possession for Ole Miss. Mickey and Martin were outstanding all night. I am writing more about our guards and forwards - namely anyone not named Hornsby. They need to stay engaged and keep hustling - particularly down low. LSU cleans up their defense in this area and we can play w anyone. Great "W" last night even though it was ugly at times. It was a very physical game! We can play tougher!

It's tough late in the game like that cause Ole Miss knew they wanted to get to the basket and the last thing LSU wanted to do was foul, stop the clock, and put he #1 free throw shooting team at the line with a chance to setup a press.

I wasn't all that upset about it. They kept the three point shooters off the three point line. I think we played a pretty physical first half but we gave up too many offensive rebounds in the second half. Still, overall very pleased with the defense.

They need to quit turning the ball over. Ole Piss shot just over 20% from the field and nearly beat us.

If you ask me, I just think our bigs get gassed in the second half, hence we never finish teams off when our "foot is on the throat". As much as I love JFJ, I'm genuinely perplexed LSU almost always has 2-3 timeouts left given its depth

Good points about not fouling and their reputation as one of the best free throw shooting teams in conference. Still think they let them get to the basket way too quickly. Guess that's better than letting them launce 3's. We won the game so I'm happy!

They had far fewer fouls than they should in a SEC game but they did let them get pretty physical without calling the ticky tacky stuff.

Defense will not be this team's strong point but I thought they played better d last night than they did the first two sec games.

What? The D was excellent. Ole Miss shot under 40% and Mickey had 6 blocks. It is soft late in the game with a 2 possession lead by design. Jeez.

We are soft, but you picked a poor example.

This. The sloppiness on offense is frustrating as shite. This team has legitimate tourney talent but they put themselves in binds with turnovers and bad possessions.

I've been a little underwhelmed with Mickey and Martin's offensive game the past two games as well tbh. Better post play would help cut down on the turnovers.

Mickey and Martin block shots but seem lazy at times rebounding/ blocking out. Especially Martin. If Robinson could just develop. Who is our future center?

Everyone acts like our defense is terrible and I continue to laugh at it...

LSU has been top 50 in the country in defense efficiency all year (Currently 40th). In SEC play we are top 5 in almost every defensive statistic.

Our opponents score alot of points because we are the 7th fastest team in the NCAA, but points per possession, LSU has played very good defense this year. The offense has actually lagged behind. We are 9th in SEC in conference and 113th overall in NCAA.

I don't think you can say Martin should get more than 14 rebounds. As far as physicality, they are what they are; it's too late to think they can change that this year.

I don't think they are lazy at all. They do not block out enough because they rely so heavily on their athleticism but don't confuse that with laziness.

I honestly think with our style of play, a center is not really a good thing. 2 PFs who can run are better than a big ogre inside that can't run the court. Still, with the current roster, either Robinson, Malone, or Mickey if he comes back will be "C" next year.

Mickey allowed "that crap" on the 2-3 possessions before. Mickey gets a lot of pub for the blocked shots (as he should), but if you watch the game you'll see that he and Martin are really bad defenders. They get beat off the dribble constantly, and I think in some cases allow themselves to do so so that they can try to block the shot from behind. Gray can play good defense, but there are far too many times he plays "behind" the ballhandler in an effort to try to get a steal on the reach-around. LSU seems to place a higher emphasis on creating blocks and steals rather than staying in front of their man and forcing contested shots. This isn't a new problem for LSU, although overall it seems like the defense has improved to some extent this year.

Really TQ and (most of the time) Hornsby are LSU's best on ball defenders. While Hornsby's offense was outstanding last night, his defense on Moody was even better and THE KEY to winning that game.

There is no big secret to winning on the road. The visiting team MUST defend. LSU hit big shots last night, but that was one of LSU's better defensive efforts. That's why the won

That is true. But you also have to take into account that the "OppO" Strength of Schedule is 223 i.e. LSU hasn't played a bunch of highly efficient offensive teams.

Before last night, LSU had only played 3 teams that ranked in the top 100 in offensive efficiency. Last night was a good effort against an efficient offensive team. Hopefully that trend continues

in the missouri game, they reached the bonus with 8:50 left in the game. They didn't shoot a single free throw until 1:30 left in the game. And that was the only free throws they attempted.

Lets refresh: 2 free throws in the last 8:50 in the game while being in the bonus. I think they shot like 6 threes or something like that during that time. I was about to lose my damn mind.

For his size he is soft, he should work the post more. When you one of the tallest guys on court you gonna get rebounds. He is not NBA ready physically.

I agree with your assessment of TQ. Patterson is a better defender than Hornsby imo.

No we need a hybrid 6'10 guy who can run, shoot and rebound. Be a physical presence in middle. Ole miss/Missouri at times ate Mickey and Martin lunch and took their Capri sun. Physical players give them trouble. Them guarding a guy 2-3 inches shorter who is a perimeter player is not a accurate gauge

I agree we need to be more physical, but not just on defense. I also think we need to get some other guys some PT b/c we are going to either wear down or be in foul trouble from being "more physical".
