I'll probably get ripped apart for this one, but here goes ...

The LSU victory Saturday gave us our 17th Western Division Title. Is it not true that the SEC split baseball into 2 divisions in 1992?

If so, does that mean we have only 'not' won the Western Division 4 times since 1992?

So go ahead, feast or famine.

Not a horrible question....but baseball has been split into divisions forever. Some of those titles came in the 60's and 70's.

ETA: If I recall correctly we use to play home and away series vs the west in the 80's

Would like to see if someone can answer this. Amazing if true.

From 1959-1985, SEC baseball was split into divisions. For whatever reason, divisions did not exist from 1986-1991, then with the addition of South Carolina and Arkansas to the SEC, they went back to divisions.

LSU has won or shared the Western Division in 14 of the 22 years since 1992.

LSU won the West also in 1961, 1975, and 1985.

LSUGrad, thanks for that answer brother. Very nice. 14 of 22 isn't too shabby either! Thanks for the research.

I think before 1986, the only conference games you would usually play were against the teams in your division. Starting in 86, you played everyone else in the league.

I see you have been to the Vaught and seen OM's 2003 SEC West banner.

Sweet

I know for a fact the Webel faithful take their 2003 banner very seriously. Guess that's what makes it so funny.

I always ask them how they fared in the 2003 SEC championship game.
