thanks! yes..much different averages in conf play. Nola was down to .276

You mean he didn't hit for the same average outside of the SEC as he did in the conference? Imagine that.

what hurt the team last year was nobody being able to come out pen and be effective. And PM out thought himself with the new bats. He took the bat out of our guys hands too many times to sac bunt.

yes nola wasn't much different, but you obviously deleted the rest of my post. Hanover being 50 points worse is a big deal.

Yes the two biggest issues last season was relief pitching and bringing runs in after they got on. Fix those two problems and we should have a good season. Which I think the pitching is fixed, will just have to wait and see on the hitting.

Hard to believe, but according to the previously posted links LSU was 3rd in the SEC in team batting average at .303! That blew my mind

ETA: and 4th in the league in conference only BA

The only possible explanation here is that sac bunts don't count against the average

the real problem was a serious lack of timely hitting....and of course getting too cute with the small ball

Along with getting ZERO production from 1B and C which we have not been used to because we have been spoiled.

Its not spoiled to have a 1B. that can hit, thats where you stick hitters that are sub par in the field. That just tells you how our line up was last season. Now a catcher hitting 400 or so (I don't know exactly what Gibbs did his jr. year) is spoiling.

i agree. Didnt really mean spoiled to the 1B, but more so with the catcher.

Outfield was also missing a hitter too.

Yes Watkins was a gaping hole in the lineup. Also struck out a ton.

He was basically a guaranteed out in the lineup, and it was tough to watch.

He just wasn't the same after hurting his elbow, combine that with SEC pitching causing him trouble and it wasn't a good mix.
