Shocking to me. Predicted the exact opposite preseason. Can't explain the pitching decline.

Agree, the Pitching has been the story of the year, and not in a good way. The bats have actually been a lot better than anyone thought....

alan dunn, doing some work.
I don't know if any of us fans can explain our pitching decline. I would think (hope) that PM can get to be bottom of it and take appropriate action, if necessary.
pitching wins or loses more games than anything else.

Not saying the team WILL- but this team has potential to get red hot and make a big run. That run has always in the past been dependent on getting a top 8 seed. At this point I just want to see improvement and consistency. Get a regional at home, go wherever, and see what happens.

See, PM needs to receuit bigger hitters that can hit in the SEC......oh wait

Well, here is the good news, our pitching has struggled.
We are 28-16, 11-10 and 3 games out of first place in SEC West while our pitching has struggled all year. It was supposed to be our strength and it has not been close to good, ranking near the bottom of most categories compared to the rest of the SEC.
If we had mediocre pitching and struggling hitters, then we would be in trouble but we have the pitching, once it wakes up, to go deep this postseason.
Arkansas is a perfect opponent for LSU's pitching to come alive and begin a run that sends us to Omaha.
I think Alex Lange has yet to play to the level of his talent and Jared Poche needs to go back to dominating Friday night's again. This could be the beginning of an amazing run for LSU!

Thanks for posting. The Tigers have gone to the CWS with similar offenses. Pitching is the big let-down this season, as we all knew prior to the stats being posted. If Romero had started at catcher all season I believe the Tigers would have a couple more wins.

If you think we can make it to Omaha with this pitching staff you're delusional..and I'm not a negatiger, just a realist. Vallek is done being effective b/c teams can watch film and prepare for his pitches which are mainly offspeed.See last 2 weekends. That's why CPM is taking him out of the rotation and he won't fare better out of the pen.
Poche is struggling and even if he improves it won't be enough to get us thru a regional or super. Unless several guys in the pen step up and post a number of strong outings of multiple innings we won't see a super.JMO

D1Baseball's projections have LSU as the #2 seed in the Hattiesburg Regional, which seems about right based on RPI. A strong stretch run could still get an all-La. Regional (LSU, ULL, Tulane, Southland) but it would still be tough to make a super.
Winning a Regional is this team's ceiling right now!

Interesting stats...
I looked but, didn't see it posted...compared to the rest of the SEC I would like to know where we rank in batting average with runners in scoring position and also with 2-outs and runners in scoring position.
I know it may be a somewhat fictitious stat, but if in every single inning a team got a lead off hit followed by 3 outs, the team batting average would be .250 and if a team got 2 hits every other inning and a single in each of the other innings then 3 outs the team BA would be 0.325....
So, I would think the proof in the pudding is how good is the team BA with runners in scoring position and I would think the sign of a good team would be a respectable BA with runners in scoring position and 2 outs...call that clutch hitting.
I realize the pitching is not what everyone thought it was going to be, but those were just a few thoughts and questions.

Thank you...interesting stats...I wouldn't have thought that. Makes one have much more confidence in this team going forward.
I will have to say the one thing that I've really liked this year with these guys is that our hitters seem to working opposing pitchers deeper into counts...
