This article was written a few years ago. Basically LSU athletic department is donating $7.2MM to academic programs per year.

Does anyone know if this is still the case or have some sort of update on this?

Alleva says the agreement will "put LSU in a position of envy" of other schools around the country.

I feel like JBE wouldn't "bite the hand that feeds him" if LSU athletics is helping out education, but then again, he's a politician.

PS Common sense tells me LSU isn't shutting down, but why publicly threaten it if there's no risk?

PR is about appearances, not reality.

I'm so sick of everything. LSURUSSIAN and I are meeting with the rest of the Order and we're just going to pay this shite off. It's ridiculous. I'm tired of all you children bitching about it.

The AD does still give back to athletics. It's been talked about on here 100 times.

The AD doesn't exist without the university, so it's not like the AD can just shite on the academic side. The AD needs to donate money back....it's one of the ways they stay out of the heat of having to report everything as income and paying a shitpile of taxes. The IRS will start to get pissy if the AD is making 50 mil a year clear money.

And the reason he makes a threat about things that seemingly most people are passionate about (education and football), is so that you'll be more likely to accept the biggest tax hike in state history. It does him no good to talk about cutting programs that are overextended and abused, such as Medicaid, because that is a cut to a demographic that voted him into office, and doesn't allow for the increased spending that started under Jindal.

Eta...I didn't vote for the guy, and I did for Jindal. But I can also see that the spending started there, with no attempt to make meaningful cuts elsewhere to offset it. Just LA politics in action.

Yes

Although due to a surplus in fiscal year 2014-2015, the Athletic Dept gave Academics $10 million last year instead.

1: I'm not a child

3: Threaten to take away my passion and can can better believe that I'll do more than bitch

Thanks NFLSU for the update.

To get the exact reaction that is overtaking this board. Panic by the general public. LSU football is not being shut down; TOPS is not being shut down. This is nothing more than a scare tactic to make people amenable to raising taxes on on people and business.

It's just like when President shut down the national parks when congress shut down the government. The expenses of the national parks is a small drop in the bucket of the trillions of dollars of national debt. Yet, the uninformed go crazy when Yellowstone is closed for business

Yeah, that's me right about now. I don't generally follow politics as closely as I should. Too much BS for me.

And every legislator in the state is getting blown up with a demand for action. Unfortunately, pressure is the only way to get these blood sucking politicians to do their jobs.

This sentiment is exactly why politicians pull this crap. Scare people into thinking this is remotely possible so everyone better support his tax hikes to save our beloved football program.

Politics as usual. Sadly, it works more times than not.

This would have to happen to not have LSU athletics:

State universities would start to shut down. It's pretty safe to say that LSU would be the last to shut down, am I right?
If LSU is the last one, then there would be 0 state universities in Louisiana.

Of course this isn't going to happen, but please explain to me how this is reality and not a scare tactic (as he said).

Now tell me how lying to everybody is going to make us want to support him and his tax hikes?
