LSU analyst, now OLB and ST coach Bob Diaco

With Lindsey's medical absence and Jancek moving to DL, Bob Diaco has moved from analyst to on field OLB and ST coach.
Just a few interesting things I read on him:
- Former LB at Iowa under Hayden Fry
- DC at Cincy under Kelly
- DC at ND with Kelly, won Broyles award with ND (2nd in CFB with points allowed)
- Former UConn HC, not a great record
- DC at Nebraska, LA Tech and Purdue
- OLB coach at Oklahoma
- DL coach for New Jersey Generals (USFL)
- ST coordinator at 3 stops as well
Nice to have a guy with that much experience that LSU can pull from the analyst role and use as a field coach

Come a long way from promoting Meatball. Luckily Meatball turned out to not be bad but you're right it's nice to have a support staff with some experience

What ever happened to Meatball after he lost his job due to a broken leg?

Still going strong as dline coach with Aranda at Baylor.

I thought he’d be hired as the ST Coach after the “vacancy”…I think he’s a good to great defensive coordinator, and a pretty decent Special Teams coach.
Just goes to show you that Kelly has actual plans when it comes to the coaching staff.

BK taking the Nick Saban approach of only hiring Assistants that have proven experience in actually
being able to coach their position. (As opposed to the popular "Rant Fartknocker" practice of hiring only "Great Recruiters" that can't coach their way out of wet paper bags.....ie Mickey Joseph types)![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconrolleyes.gif)

Not really excited about this. If losing is experience, then he has plenty.

Bob Diaco sounds like a manager of some midwest small business in a movie.
like when a character talks about their boss his name is Bob Diaco

He's coaching OLB and ST. He's not the new HC. This is now the 3rd time Kelly has hired him. As a DC he led ND to 2nd in fewest points allowed and was DC when they made it to the NCG.
I guess Aranda is a bad coach since he has a losing record 2/3 seasons at Baylor.

Bob Diaco might be the strangest man in college football, and that's saying something.

Not really excited about this comment. Dumbass.

This is actually significant. It means he knows Kelly’s expectations, game philosophy, and how he likes practices to go.

If they’re making him ST coach, I assume that means they don’t expect Lindsey back this season. I hope he bounces back. Could always slide into an analyst role later on if his body isn’t up to on-field coaching. And on campus recruiting. I assume he’ll keep his current salary, though, which is only right.

What a dumb statement
I guess I could be ignorant like you, or I could look at the teams he's coached and say that I'm not sold, but this is the rant so it must be a 1000000% home run knocked it out the park other teams were running out to sign him to a better job.

He was never a head coach. He’s been a coordinator and position coach.
So maybe you should look at the units he was responsible and how they did rather those team’s overall record.

I mean, I guess we could ignore his time at UCONN and just bury our heads in the sand.

I want nothing more than for him to be the best OLB and ST coach ever, but pardon me if I'm not as optimistic as some of you that don't even know the dudes background.

You mean like every coach on every shadow staff? They all suck?
