Was this done to make the Gumps look better?

Sort of what it must feel like to be Notre Dame, but I'll take it for a change.

LSU is a long shot to make the playoffs, but we need TCU, Clemson, Oregon and USC to accumulate some losses just in case we have a miracle run...

Yeah, an 11-2 SEC Champion LSU in at #4 over 13-0 TCU and/or 13-0 USC seems unlikely unless the Tigers just annihilate the UGA/TEN winner in ATL.

#6 vs #10 is a better sell than #6 vs #18

Not sure if it’s to make the Gumps look better, but just the match up itself.

Sec fans would be excited regardless of what lsu was ranked

But the national crowd will be more inticed by a top 10 match up

SEC must have paid some cash.

They are really setting up for some potential chaos.

Realistically, the top-12 is you're only contenders left for the playoffs and with the exception of Clemson and TCU, we'll have a bunch of Top-12 matchups left to finish the season.

LSU-Bama
Tennessee-UGA
Bama-Ole Miss
Michigan - Ohio State
USC-UCLA

Potential:

Oregon - USC/UCLA
UGA/Tenn - LSU/Bama/Ole Miss

Fringe Chaos:

Illinois could clip Michigan with their defense and face Ohio St in the BIG champ game.

UNC has the potential to win out and improve their resume.

These rankings really favor Alabama in their hopes to get into the playoff. I can see a scenario where a 1 loss Bama gets in over a 1 loss Tennessee with how this is setup.

With LSU controlling its own fate, they had to put them no worse than 10th, because regardless of record, the SEC champion gets a spot in the playoff.

I’m ?? excited that LSU is ranked that high… but I honestly believe that this is a fluff up to make a bama win agains at “top 10 team” look good to keep them in playoff talks. However. I do believe that LSU can win on Saturday, but to me that high of a jump just seems sus.

Ah, forgot USC already lost!

13-0 Clemson, do they get in over a 2-loss SEC Champion LSU, that's one to ponder.

Florida State loss in first game doesn’t hurt LSU that much in rankings. They are highest ranked team with two losses. If LSU did win FSU game and were 7-1 how much higher could they be with a lone loss to #1 Tennessee?

Idk, but if Polian could put someone back there that could field a punt, LSU could be in the #2 - #5 range. Because without the special teams blunders the FSU game was a definite win, and the Tennessee game could've gone either way. It ended up a blowout, but I think it was going to be close without handing them early points.

LSU is not number 10. They will be returned to the ranks of 15-20 after this weekend.

Don't get me wrong, I am very happy with the success of this year, but this is not a top 10 team, yet.

Win on Saturday and you will convince me otherwise.
