LSU 38, Towson 22 - Post-Game Quotes
Sept. 29, 2012
LSU OFFENSIVE PLAYER QUOTESRB Michael Ford
On how Towson kept it close …
“They’re a good team, and they came out to play. We definitely didn’t take them for granted. We just
had to keep taking what they were bringing and rolling with it.”
On the offensive line playing young guys…
“It’s in LSU’s history. It doesn’t matter how old you are, and it doesn’t matter what year you’re in. You
just have to learn to take the punches and roll with it.”
QB Zach MettenbergerOn the play of the offense …
“We had sloppy plays. This week we just have to show up with a great attitude to get better. Right
now we’re not playing LSU football, and I’m disappointed in my performance tonight. We know we
have to step it up from here.”
On the team’s performance …
“It was nothing in particular. Games like this the guys weren’t into it, but if you’re a great player it
shouldn’t matter who we’re playing. We just have to practice better week in and week out. We have a
very talented team, but we just have to get quicker at this point.”
On the score being close at halftime …
“It’s not a good feeling, especially when we know we have the talent to beat teams out of the park.
Towson played good football tonight, and we just have to move on from here, look in the mirror and
be the team we need to be next week.”
WR Odell Beckham Jr.On his performance …
“As a receiver you have to catch great balls like that to get your confidence back, and this game
definitely helped out. You just have to move forward from here.”
Towson-LSU Quotes
LSU DEFENSIVE PLAYER QUOTESDE Lavar EdwardsOn LSU’s defensive performance …
“We played good at times; other times we didn’t. We missed a lot of tackles. That hurt us a lot. We
have to be more consistent. We didn’t play like we’re used to playing and how we should’ve played
tonight. We just have to learn from this and get better from it.”
On giving up 22 points …
“It definitely isn’t something we’re accustomed to doing. That definitely wasn’t something we wanted
to do tonight. We made a lot of mistakes. When you make mistakes, things like that happen.”
S Eric ReidOn the game …
“I’m happy we won, but it’s frustrating the way we played. On offense we had turnovers and penalties,
and on defense we missed a ton of tackles. I give credit to Towson for playing a great game. We
have to get better. We just have to make sure that we can do what we can do. You can control
yourself if you can concentrate on the things you have to do. We have to eliminate these penalties.”
DE Sam MontgomeryOn making improvements for next week …
“Sometimes you have to focus on the little things and get back to the basics. We’re going to look at
technique, and I know we’re going to have the tackling unit on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday. Then we have a walk through. Those mistakes will be corrected, and we’ll get back to LSU
football next week. We just went out there and played some bad football. I played some bad football.
It’s something that we have to shake off and let go.”
Towson-LSU Quotes
TOWSON HEAD COACH ROB AMBROSE QUOTESOpening statement...
"I am extremely conflicted. I hate losing. I know everybody that watches this or reads this might think
that's insane, considering who we played. I don't care. You don't line up to lose. With that being said,
as a head coach, as an alum, as a father, I don't think it's humanly possible for me to be more proud
of these players, or more proud of the fans that came down here. I'm conflicted."
On their opportunity to play an FBS team...
"In the short time that we've had enough scholarships to be able to play FBS teams, we don't have a
lot of experience with this. But we have drawn from what experience that we do have. A year ago, we
had the opportunity to play the University of Maryland and took them pretty deep. The problem was
that we didn't really believe. Not enough guys. Then we played Kent State and turned the ball over six
times because we didn't really believe. We went in and started slow and didn't really believe that we
could win. But if you go back and watch the film that these kids have seen, the other guy is just not
that big. He's a little bit bigger, but he's not that much bigger. He's a little faster, but he's not that
much faster. And if we play as 11, we play with energy, we play with discipline, and we're tough, then
we have a chance to be successful."
On the team's defensive effort...
"We've been building toward this, defensively, to force turnovers, to play as 11, to be disciplined.
We've been working toward it. Some nights we've had nine guys and 10 guys, but tonight we had 11.
I give tremendous credit to the kids and the defensive staff for putting a game plan together against
one of the best teams in the nation."
TOWSON OFFENSIVE PLAYER QUOTES
QB Grant EndersOn the rain...
"It slowed down right at game time, so it wasn't too much of a factor at all. They did a good job of
getting dried balls in, so it didn't affect it at all."
On the Towson fans in attendance...
"We had an amazing turn out with our fans from Towson. They made the long trip over, and I was
looking up to our section there. It wasn't too big, but it was loud."
On the view from around the country...
"I'm not sure if they were too familiar with our school and where we are from. I think and I hope that
after the game they will realize the difference between FCS and FBS football is not that big. At the
end of the day it's 11 guys versus 11 guys competing to win and anyone can beat anyone."
Towson-LSU QuotesOn the first touchdown...
"It boosted our confidence because we've been ready to play since we got here. With the opportunity
to be on this stage and scoring the first touchdown, we realized we could play with them."
TOWSON DEFENSIVE PLAYER QUOTESDE Frank BeltreOn tonight's game ...
"We should have beaten them. We knew that was their weakness; they couldn't pass. So, that's what
we attacked. We stopped their run game and they couldn't pass and it showed. We prepared very
well."
On earning respect ...
"I feel like we were viewed as a little high school team. We were looked at as like nobody, to be
honest with you. They called us Towsen, Towson State, they called us everything but what we are,
Towson University. That's why when we came out, we punched them in the mouth, because they
weren't ready for what we had."
DB Jordan DangerfieldOn forcing a fumble ...
"The whole week we were practicing stripping the ball and forcing turnovers. We knew we would have
to come out here and compete and win the turnover battle. That was one of our goals we tried to do
to get the ball back to the offense as much as possible. That particular play I just ran downhill and
came up physical."
On earning respect ...
"The fact that they came out and disrespected us calling us Towson State, calling us Towsen. We
wanted to make a statement telling everybody, pretty much nationwide, that we're Towson University
and that we came here to play football. We didn't come here to pick up a check, we came here to try
to win and shock the world."

No way Lavar Edwards was that clear and concise

Ugh. We keep giving people the best game of their career.
Would be nice to just go up 14-0 like a normal top teir team.

Unfortunatly this is true.

I do feel like we kinda overlooked and under estimated them on our schedule. We didn't respect them.
That said, if we played them again next weekend knowing who they are now, we beat them by 50.

Meh. They deserve to be. They marched into our house and gave us a game. We know what the problems are. Until our staff and players choose to fix them, this is what we will face.

Les will still run his RB into a 10 man defensive front

Their whole fricking team seems cocky and arrogant. We scored almost twice as many points and fumbled the ball twice inside the 20. They scored their last touchdown on our freshmen. The score could have easily been 50-14
