LSU let Coach Miles now instead of at the end of the season because the university could not take a chance he would beat Alabama and then be stuck with him

Possible but I think it was more about saving the fanbase. If Les is still coaching, there may be 80,000 people at the game.

Guess he hasn't watched the last 5 games against Alabama....what a tool

Silliness
The team was not responding and the fanbase was splintering and becoming more animated. It would be foolish to prolong that.
What one MUST do eventually, one SHOULD do immediately.
I see no reason to make things more complicated and nuanced than that.
LSU did not fire Les. Les fired HIMSELF. LSU simply informed him of that fact.

Pilot - your last three sentences are the most accurate posted in the rant this week

Fock Finebaum! That is all.

No kidding. The guy was told to change or else. He didn't. OK, well, you were warned, bye!
But that stinking raise, buyout in '12 was the final nail. Miles could just flip the finger and say, "fire me if you have the guts. I'm getting paid anyway." frick him.

Les was fired because of poor results and proving he was not willing to fix the team problems. He had ample warning.
Les was fired early because of the above and the fact that LSU lost credibility in last year's hire without a job opening at the end of season. No coach in his right mind would even consider talking to Lsu this year as long as Les was still employed.
Les was incapable of ever beating Bama, ole miss or Ark again.

He lost fan base and was about to lose team end of story

Yeah beating Alabama would have been a bad thing :eyeroll:

Because ranters were angry? Rant makes up a very small portion of the fanbase

I kind of agree with this. My niece works at an LSU gift store and she said they were VERY busy last night. People were telling her they refused to buy LSU merchandise when Miles was coach because they didn't want to support him.

none of the talking heads are talking about the secondary economic effects, which start adding up...
for example, you have 80,000 in a stadium that seats 102,000...that's 22,000 who aren't there to buy concessions...figure just one Coca Cola each @$5- per, you just lost $110,000- in revenue....and that starts adding up....

That's funny, but there was very little chance of that happening considering how our offense looked against Wisconsin and Auburn. Also, we likely would have been 4-4 or 4-5 going into the Bama game with Arkansas and aTm still left, so it wouldn't have been enough to save him at that point.

I just got two free tickets to this game, you really think more than 80k butts will be in the seats? People are still giving away tickets to an sec game.

8 less Saturday's for LSU fans to watch paint dry for 4 hours? I'm in. Once the talent could not overcompensate for the coaching, change had to be made. LSU is in the absolute perfect position to make a play for the very best available coach moving forward.

BHP, your whole post is spot on except for one word:
Actually, Finebaum is dead right, also. When you depose a king or dictator, you kill him immediately when he is first in your power.
When Hugo Chavez was deposed they did not kill him, and he regained power. Last year they thought they had Les deposed, and he regained power. They learned from that. This year, the moment he was in their power, they fired him.

I guess the 08 team did take Bama to OT in Tiger stadium. You never know
I think it needed to be done in general though to keep fan interest. I wouldn't have been too worried about beating Alabama.
