....but LSU T&F under Dennis Shaver is sinking lower and lower and lower.............

We do not even have a full team, and the imbalance gets worse and worse and the excuses by Shavers is unacceptable.

For those of us not in the T&F loop, what’s the story here?

So you’re saying Mondo goes to LSU and doesn’t turn pro out of high school?

That's what happens when the former AD is "Cheap" (Let Pat Henry walk away to A&M and allowed Saban to leave without a fight because he didn't want to give him a pay raise commensurate to his value to the LSU football program) and the current one is a Wretched Excess Mediocrity Acceptor.

His dad was a pole vaulter at LSU

His mom is Swedish, not sure if she was at LSU, but we had Swedes by the dozen under Henry, when the track program was competently managed. So it's possible that Mondo's dad met her at LSU or in the T&F circuit, his dad was very good too.

I think I heard that his father wanted him to have the college experience. But with the way Shavers is running the program down (today we finished 11th in the SEC), I don't want to predict the outcome on MD's eventual decision. He signed with LSU, FWIW....

I don't know the story this year, but LSU T&F has had years where they don't use all roster spots available. Very odd things going on.

This is what pisses me off.

Some events we don’t bother recruiting at all.

His dad was there at the end of Boots Garland's reign as head coach and for 2 or 3 years when Billy Maxwell took over as the head coach. When Maxwell took over is really when LSU track started ascending. When Pat Henry came, the nucleus of the great teams was already in place. Maxwell resigned because he had some family issues.....I think his son was pretty messed up on drugs but I can't recall exactly. That's why Sam Seemes took over for a year before henry came because Maxwell's resignation was unexpected. We had a bunch of swedes then too and Greg Duplantis' future wife was on the team.

Men's Track only get 12.5 scholarships per year and women get 18. So unless you can get a top athlete, you don't waste a scholly on someone who likely won't score at NCAAs. Actually, very few athletes get a full ride. Most get partials so you can recruit a few more athletes. But with so few schollys, you're never going to recruit for every event. LSU has usually concentrated on sprinters.

She was on the track team and played volleyball for LSU. His older brother is currently on the LSU baseball team...you've probably heard of him.

Skip Bertman shite all over pat Henry's requests repeatedly, had nobody meet the returning natty champs at the airport,etc..

LSU loses a natty title machine.

It's possible that he will turn pro, but he signed with LSU and everything that I've read and heard is that he will be at LSU next year.

With all the success that T&F had, they never had much of a fan base supporting them. I wasn't happy when Henry left for A&M but Bertman might have had legitimate reasons for not giving in to Henry's demands, in a sport that doesn't generate much revenue.

I'm well aware. You can fill those spots with walk-ons and even then, they don't use them all.
