Did Kevin Minter not win the Butkus in 2012?!!!!

I never realized how good his statline was that season!

130 total tackles
15 tackles for loss
4 sacks
and an INT

Devin White won the Butkus award last season with

123 total tackles
12 tackles for loss
3 sacks

Was Minter even a finalist? I remember him being a tackling machine in 2012 but I don't remember him being so disruptive in the backfield.

Well who were the finalists and what were their stats?

I see Manti Te’o won with 113 tackles and 7 Ints. The interceptions are probably what sealed it for him.

I believe Minter is the guy who in the Florida game (unfortunately a loss) had over 20 tackles. Probably one of the most impressive games I've ever seen by a LB.

While missing time late in the game due to cramps.

That was the year the media glorified te’o and notre dame, it was annoying as frick to say the least. They tried to do it this year with chase young, but burrow said frick that

Yes and he was off the field on at least one of their TDs

At least 5 of those were tipped passes

Lsu would have beat ND that year.

Te’o had the media behind him and that entire Notre Dame team all year. He was the face of that team. That and his 7 interceptions.

Minter never gets credit for that season he had. Florida’s winning touchdown that year was when he was off the field. I think he was cramping up.

Minter had a better statistical season than Teo and he was a heisman candidate that season. I used to loath the coverage of that guy when he didn't even have a better statistical year versus worse competition.

Dude had 0 Ints his first 3 seasons then 7 off tips. It was very clearly just a fluke thing, way more luck than skill, which was exceedingly obvious unless all you did was glance at his top line of stats

the awards are a lot of the time based more on what you did the season before like Delpit with the thorpe this year. Minter only had 61 tackles in 2011 so there wasn't much hype for him going into the season.Te'o had 128 tackles in 2011 and 133 in 2010.

A lot of times those awards are for the hype that player has coming into the season
As good as Devin White was the LB for UK Josh Allen was probably more deserving and had a better year in the NFL as a rookie

Te'o was always going to win that because of 1. Notre Dame and 2. The inspirational story of him playing the season after the death of his girlfriend.

Te'o couldn't have done it without his GF support IMO

These awards are about media hype.
