Just seeing what our starters and a few others were rated out of high school. This isn't to bash anyone but to compare talent to coaching and maybe shed some light on what's up with the defense.

Star Rating of Current Starters on D

CB- Mills 3 stars, White 5 stars
S- Loston 5 stars, Thompson 4 stars(The backup plan to Landon Collins)
S- Martin 3 stars, Eugene- 4 stars
CB- Collins 4 stars

OLB- Jones 3 stars, Alexander 4 stars
MLB- Welter 3 stars, Louis 4 stars
OLB- Barrow 3 stars

DE- Rasco 4 stars
DT- Johnson 5 stars, Micky Johnson 4 stars
DT- Ego- 4 stars, Thomas 3 stars
DE- Allen 4 stars, Hunter 4 stars

These are all taken from 247 sports. Just starters and those who have played immediate backup roles.

Take your star ratings over to the recruiting board with the rest of the star gazing tards.

I could careless if they are no stars or five stars. All I want is guys who can make plays.

Mo Claiborne and Tyrann Mathieu were both 3-star recruits...how'd that turn out?

Correct. We are lacking playmakers, tacklers and leaders.

It all starts with the front four who are being soundly pushed around and unable to get penetration against OL.

Stars do not get on the field, players do..
we need to develop 3 stars into 4 or 5..that's what is not being don.

We have some freshmen, but we actually have a lot of Seniors and Juniors on D...
they have got to step up...they should have BEEN DEVELOPED by now..
that's on the coaches.

Not the point of this. Mills is a 3 star but I think he is better than what he was rated. Also he was scouted by Ron Cooper. Guy knows when he sees talent. Now we have Raymond and I just hope he can sustain what Cooper had

We just don't have any playmakers. No ball hawks in the secondary. No scary safety. No tough as nails linebackers. No fearless pass rushers. The top level talent hasn't played out. I love freak but he's out of position. Too small at d tackle. Loston is one if the worst tacklers and has no feel for where the ball is going. Yes chavis played passive and yes I believe it cost us the game but our talent isn't as good as we hoped. I'm really concerned what next year will look like. I hope our offensive stars like college more than money.

Sorry, I thought you were echoing the sentiment from another thread that we don't have talent. Guess you are saying that we have enough talent, but not coaching?

Ok maybe a bit of both. Like you said with Mo and TM7 stars aren't always right and I agree. However I also didn't know all our starting LB's were that average coming out of high school. You don't think it's showing?

Also, from the coaching angle, everyone says Raymond recruits better than Cooper but what good is that if you can't coach those 3 stars or whoever to be better?

We got lucky with mathew and Claiborne that is not the norm!

We play with 3 and 4s Bama plays with 4 and 5s who's better?

Stars do matter we could have used Landon Collins out there
He could have been the difference!

So which one in this group is going to the be the next TM7/MC since our coaching staff does a lovely job at finding hidden gems.
