Claiborne, Taylor, Mathieu, and Brooks.

When you write all those names out, you realize just how much we lost back there. Three of them were all-American types of players.

There's no logic/rhythym to our passing game, I get the feeling we have about 3 or 4 passing plays and we just throw them in here and there between all the dives and hope they work, there's no strategy to it.

I am going to wait til next game to make that kind of decision on the passing game, but it was disappointing. I disagree that there was no logic to it though, if you watched the past few years you will see a coach who runs something even when it doesn't work well repeatedly. Maybe trying to force it to work. Will see how things work vs UDUb before I get too worked up.

My main takeaway is that we should stop hoping to see an offensive philosophy that doesn't exist . Miles is who he is, and the amount of talent he has doesn't change that philosophy. He would take an all heisman candidate and turn him into a hand off specialist.

There were some good things that happened, but we already knew the running game was stout, so we learned nothing, tiger fans wanted to be reassured that we have a passing QB who can get us out of trouble, we saw a flash or two of that but little else.

The big question this year, is can Miles overcome his own predilection to be one dimensional and rely too much on the backs to carry the load? He always says he wants balance, then never follows through on that, it's just not in his nature to do so.

Someone said in an earlier post "Mett has a great arm and has the ability to put the ball on the money in tight spaces. I was disappointed in his ability to read the defense and he held the ball to much."

I agree with both posts. Late in the game when he had plenty of time Mett nailed Boone in a narrow window. Perfect throw, which shows he can throw it when the protection is adequate. Earlier when NT was fresh, he looked a little uncomfortable to me.
I doubt we will play a worse team than NTS this season.

You dont need a passing game in the SEC???

You try and win with no threat of a passing game aganst SEC foes and You will win maybe 50% of your games.

What a bunch of crybabies in this thread.

We still dominated that team. We will still dominate almost every team on the schedule.

I'd say to reserve judgement on this team until the Auburn game.

Too many young/inexperienced players now who need these games to gel and learn. Mett will adjust his internal clock. Receivers looked solid.

To win the SEC you have to be able to run and stop the run. I don't know who the frick you people are who think we need to change the style of our offense.

Oh yeah, it's the rantards!

Well said. It's disheartening but true. Regardless of the talent at his disposal, Miles will always run a very conservative ground-oriented offense. That's what he grew up with in Big X country. It's boring as hell and about as much fun as watching paint dry, but that is our offense now. It remains to be seen if we try to develop the passing game a bit more, but after see Mett throw multiple screen passes last night, it's obvious that Miles isn't ready to stretch the field yet....if we ever do.

Nobody outside of the program doubts that we have the talent to win it all; they doubt that we have the coaching to make the most of what we have.

Let's be honest, I think we all were expecting to see the coaching staff air it out a bit to get Mett the experience he needs. We all know our running game is strong. Since there was zero risk of us losing against North Texas, I wanted to see us open it up through the air, but the passing play calls were ultra-conservative and unimaginative. We have two stud receivers in Landry and OBJ, so we really could air it out, which in combination with our running game could give us one of the most powerful balanced offenses in the country. But it ain't gonna happen, not with this coaching staff. I have a very bad feeling that Mett's going to be under-utilized.

You mean not with this head coach.

I have the same feeling. Like one of the previous poster's said, Miles would take a QB who was a Heisman hopeful and turn him into a hand off specialist. If we go another season with mediocre to poor QB play, then something has to give.

If it doesn't? You're about 6 years and 80+ games too late for that assessment. Miles wins.

So let me get this straight. Passing yardage is the mark of a great team. As long as we pass the ball for 250-300 yards games you guys will be fine. Heck, all this time I thought winning was the object. Period. Man you dudes are learning me something.

Winningest coach in the history of the program and Rantards still hate him because he won't win 'their way'.

Idiots up in here. Pure ignorant loudmouth morons.

Hate our fanbase on this site.

don't worry about it, according to duece985 Mett can't read defenses, locks onto defenders and isn't mentally tough enough to be a good qb. Another poster commented that Mett plays scared, just like JLee did.

The running game looked really good, and will continue to get better. The passing game wasent that bad either, shite 19-26 right at 200 yds. Regardless of what some of you people think, we are gonna throw the ball 30 times a game, and im guessing about 300 yds a game passing, to go with 300 yds a game rushing. And with those numbers, seems to me that not only will we have a top ranked defence, we will have one of the top ranked offenses in the nation too. This is gonna be a year to remember...GEAUX TIGERS

You know if you look at all of the things that have happened to the LSU Program since Les Miles has arrived, Katrina and Rita, kicking Perriloux off the team, co def. cord.,a not so good off. cord, to name a few, and through all of that, the LSU Program has won more games than any one else. We now have a OC, and good one, along with Chief, enough said there. He's fixed the things that were broken. Now having said that, remember when we had a qb that could throw the ball down field, Jamarcus and Flynn, well if you go back and watch those games, we did throw the ball. So for all of you that think that Les is not gonna let Mett play up to his potential, you need to do some research. He didnt trust JJ or JL, he trust Mett. We were a run dominate team because he didnt trust his qbs.
