Can Jay Johnson save us?

(Bumping this thread from the end of January)

I guess the answer is "nope".

You mean the Jay Johnson that half the board wanted to run off(ironically) after the Miss state game last year?

Like clockwork: LSU loses a game, then fans on the rant proclaim the sky is falling.

A real collapse would be if we didn't even make the tourney. This is nothing like 08 or 20 in football or even 10 in baseball. This team still has everything to play for.

They won’t be #9 in the next poll

People still bemoan the Chris Jackson, Shaq, and Stanley Roberts team that started the season #2 in the preseason poll and limped into the postseason as a 4 seed.. This women’s team started #1 in the preseason and it’s yet to be seen how they finish.

Yet you say they have completely collapsed. Maybe you too should reserve judgment til the end of the season.

It's the "next year's curse." All teams are afflicted to a certain extent-- you can find numerous examples in all sports: New York Mets in 1969, then 1970; US Olympic Hockey in 1980 v. 1984; New York Jets 1969 v 1970, and many examples in LSU sports-- the 2007 football champions were followed by the 2008 team which was pure a@@.

There are a number of reasons a team rarely repeats as a champion: even the greatest college coach of all time (Will Wade) wasn't immune to the "next year's blues."

Completely collapsed is likely too strong of a term.

But I’ve watched every single game this season and the more they play the more question marks arise. We aren’t solving any of our season long issues either. Those stay present and we add new problems on top.

Hard to beat a team that shot 78 per cent and you played poorly.

As have I , LSU is every teams Super Bowl at home playing before so far at least 3 SEC teams record crowd. Once we get to the end of the year tourney team and most likely a #4 seed or higher nobody wants to play LSU at BR or neutral court. They’ve got some issues but they still play Auburn & Miss St at home, I can assure you it’ll be a different outcome. We just don’t have depth. Losing Poole(very good PG) & S Smith was ready for a breakout, that was a depth 8 deep, now we’re 6 deep consisting of 2 Freshmen. Mulkey will figure something out for sure. When teams get to tournament time your lineup usually goes to 7-9 deep unfortunately we are at 6 hopefully someone comes on but we’ll see. Now a collapse is going a little too much but hey this is the Rant.

Uh Miami went undefeated in 02 as well and without a PI call they win back to back National championships. So you can take their names off that list.
