LSU Professor speaking... GLOBAL NEWS

This is a live discovery annoucement. They've discovered gravitational waves, proving einstein's theory of relativity. e = mc2 stuff... done with LSU students, professors... nobel prize level stuff.

New York Times article referencing LSU:

BBC News:

Team member Prof Gabriela González, Louisiana State University said: "We have discovered gravitational waves from the merger of black holes. It's been a very long road, but this is just the beginning.

Okay I am not watching a 40 minute video. Cliff notes, please. LIGO is pretty cool. If you haven't been you need to go. It's open to the public on Saturdays.

Looks like the O-T has dominated the discussion.

Where are all the dipshits saying we need to cut funding to universities at today?

A nobel prize is great, but I'd prefer we discover a more creative offense.

Hawking approves

quote:

My congratulations to the LIGO team on their discovery of gravitational waves. It is a result that is at least as important as the discovery of the Higgs Boson. It includes the first observation of gravitational waves, and of two black holes colliding and merging. With LIGO's increased sensitivity, we can expect many more detections, all improving our knowledge about how the universe works.

These experimental observations are consistent with my theoretical work on black holes in the 1970s. As a theoretical physicist, I have spent my life contributing to our understanding of the universe. It is thrilling to see predictions I made over 40 years ago such as the black hole area and uniqueness theorems being observed within my lifetime. -SH

But what have they won with all this talent. Science dept, Les, Johnny, Paul, they are all the same. Get great peole in and do a couple good things but never win the big stuff.

I am sure that this situation has nothing to do with whatever you think that it does.

Take that Sheldon Cooper! LSU! LSU! LSU! LSU! LSU! LSU!

Now if they can just teach the physics of passing the ball to Les Miles.
