I would be careful in hiring former players, Javi, Nolan, Micah, Blair, even Skip hired Bianco.
It's the easy and lazy way out.
Are those guys the best qualified?

On the flip side, when he goes outside of his former players, solid hires in Dunn, Godwin, Grewe (bad fit since he was asked to be the pitching coach when that really wasn't his forte) and even O'Conner when he was at Notre Dame. Bertman hired Turtle to win his last natty.

Recruiting, I know defense is the name of the game.
Even Baseball America wrote about it
LINK

LSU had 17 hits yesterday, that game should not have been close.

Clutch hitting is the key especially in postseason.

The good thing about baseball is once regionals start, everything you have done all year is meaningless.

Walker may be hitting a wall but he should be able to get you through 5 in a regional game. With the lefties USCe had in their lineup, Bush should have been in the pen and ready is my only gripe.

Bianco was never more than the third assistant coach. Bertman handled the pitchers and he always had a hitting coordinator.

Man, I miss Turtle and Schwanke. We used to have some BA hitting coaches. Not taking anything away from Andy either, think he might turn out to be a legit HC.

The glaring problem I'm seeing right now (this problem can still correct this summer)

Andy Dunn and Nolan Cain are the two paid assistant coaches.

Micah Gibbs is technically in a volunteer role who gets stipends etc... from other income generating sources in the program.

To be blunt Nolan Cain is being paid to handle recruiting and coach third base, personally this can't happen at a prestigious school such as LSU that puts numerous resources into baseball. I will give Mainieri the benefit of the doubt this year as Cannizaro left mid November and he wanted to keep a certain sense of continuity with Gibbs and the returning players.

Moving forward there needs to be a main point of contact with the pitchers (Alan Dunn) and hitting coach/recruiting coordinator (insert name here).

If the pitching staff didn't have one of the worst ERAs in the SEC, i don't think we'd be looking so closely at the offense.

Like you said, we hit the ball fine. We don't produce runs. That's where Cannizzaro was great. He was more of an offensive coordinator than just a hitting coach.

All coaches have flaws. Not all flaws are created equally.
CPM has one fatal flaw IMO and it's bullpen management. Yesterday's game is over ilin the 9th if he recognizes quickly that his guy can't throw strikes today and makes a change sooner. Time and time again he let's guys walk their way into trouble only to see them blow a lead. It's not like we have a stud closer right now so no one has earned the benefit of the doubt. Throw balls- get pulled. There's always tomorrow

His fatal flaw is not having a bullpen for the past two years. He can make a change to another guy who hasnt been able to consistently throw strikes all year. Newman and Hess can't consistently find the zone and hit people. Gilbert for whatever reason seems to always get hit hard. Bain cannot consistently find the zone either.

At this point Bush has had three good outings making him our most consistent bullpen arm.

Stud closer now is Hess...
Like what I saw from him yesterday...i think he is growing up fast...
If I was the coach yesterday, walker would have finished the 5th, but after HE, I would have put Gilbert in just like he did...i wouldn't have put Newman in for the 9th, Hess is the setup man, let him pitch til we get lead or he goes wild...

Only ongoing complaint with CPM is playing musical chairs with the lineup this far into the season. IDK if the inconsistency with the pitching staff made him panic but players need to know what their roles are. It's hard to do when they're regularly changing.

Tell you what… You play skipper and I'll play athletic director. I'd fire CPM yesterday and search the rant for intriguing threads. Then I'd start sending private messages to posters to begin the interview process. How could I go wrong with the hire considering the insane amount of coaching acumen, experience and managing prowess located right here under my nose!!!
