Going to be a lot of hit and run calls today with us being run out of the innings. Calling it now with the struggles hitting with RISP in this regional. Get all the bitching you can about PM and his calls in now because it's going to be called a lot today. It's either going to help us dominate the game or get us skull fricked.

I'm not saying we're going to lose I'm saying expect extremely aggressive base running that the rant hates. I can't say I fault him for going with this strategy because we're absolutely struggling right now with RISP.

Realism on this board is non-existent.

So basically being aggressive on the bases will either help us or hurt us. Bold prediction lol
We've been aggressive all year and most of Mainieri's tenure here. Anyone freaking out now hasn't been following.

I'm fine with hit and run, as long as it's done in the right situations, i.e. not when you're down by 3, with a man on because of a walk, and a pitcher that is struggling to throw strikes, and a rocking crowd, and a good OBP hitter at the plate.

So too early for "Fire Mainieri" posts?

Tigers about to stomp a mudhole in Rice. No worries -

I think Rice wins by 2 or 3 runs.

Pap goes 0-4 with 2ks and 2 GIDPS to end rallies. But he will catch the ball and throw it back to the pitcher at an all star level so it's ok :)

I don't mind hit and run calls that don't work out or steal attempts that get gunned down. I am tired AF of runners being waved around 3rd and getting thrown out at the plate.

I would like to see the stats on how often when a team that has to win twice wins the first they go on to win the second, also. I'd bet it's more than 50% of the time.
The only time I can remember when LSU went into a bracket or regional final undefeated and having to be beaten twice to be eliminated, lost the first game but then came back to win the second was in the 1993 CWS bracket final against Long Beach St.
I can remember a couple of times when we lost the first and then lost the second as well to be eliminated:
-Houston a couple years ago in regional
-USC in the 1998 CWS bracket final
There have been a few times LSU went into a bracket or regional final needing to win twice, won the first and went on to win the second as well:
-Texas A&M in regional 1989
-South Alabama in LSU regional in 1997
-UNCW one year in LSU regional?
-ULL one year in LSU regional?
I don't remember LSU ever going into a bracket or regional final needing to win twice, winning the first and then losing the second.
So, as far as I can remember, in regional or CWS play involving LSU, when a team needing to win twice has won the first game, they are 6-1 in the second game.

I was curious and checked back 10 years on Wikipedia (it was all I could stand before I gave up). There were 160 regionals, 54 of them extended to a final winner-take-all game, 45 of the winner-take-all games involved the regional host team.
-- when the undefeated team lost the first game it went on to lose the second game 57 percent of the time (31 of 54).
-- the higher seeded team won the second game 65 percent of the time (35 of 54).
-- the regional host team won the second game 64 percent of the time (29 of 45).
