For instance - in 1979 Tulane went 9-3 (similar to a 10+ win season these days) and went toe-to-toe with Penn state in a bowl game after playing:
And Tulane went 12-0 in 1998 but what does that have to do with anything?

Tulane beat LSU in 1973 but as it happens we are discussing the 1960s in this thread - exactly the time Tulane deemphasized athletics and left the SEC.

Try to stay on topic.

Against

Stanford
West Virginia
LSU
Georgia Tech
Boston College
TCU
Vanderbilt
Ole Miss
Southern Miss
Penn State

???

How did their schedule measure up that year? FURTHER...I shouldn't have to state something so obvious but uhh...errrrr....Miles wasn't coaching LSU in 1998 and we didn't play Tulane that year.

My point is obvious - the Tulane program was more adept at playing BIG teams and was more respected, better recruited then. Tulane from 60's - 70's was a much better football program than today's.

Try and keep up.

Don't have time to look it up but certainly Miles has far more wins in 9 and a third seasons than CM had in 10 full. Also, reasonably certain that CM had only two 1-loss seasons; '62 and '69 so I believe your figures for year 10 are wrong.

Why don't people understand this?!@# and those 2 extra games are USUALLY trash teams...
You have to look at SEC record games to compare.

You need to stop. Really. Its embarassing.

LSU has not beaten Tulane 30 times in their history

LSU has not beaten Rice 18 times in their history

Comparing either program to NMst, ULM, NTst, Towson, Kent St, Idaho is ignorant

Can you compare their records against the SEC?

Miles has lost 21 SEC games thru 10 years

Cholly Mac only 18

And Miles could lose maybe 6 more this year so . . .

The logic you people use amazes me. More games means more chances to win OR LOSE! Win % is the definitive stat.

Once again, please stop

A team is ranked based on games they lose. Simple fact

i.e. The #10 ranked team doesnt move up because they beat Ga Southern badly, they only move up to #8 because 2 teams ahead of them lost. Otherwise they remain at #10

Losses determine a teams worth. As it should

Yeah, schedule was fairly devoid of pure cupcakes back then. We'd play maybe one game against Rice, and then have the Tulane game. That was the closest we got to "rent-a-wins" back in those days.
