They have to use more shotgun sets and run from those sets. That is a huge reason our passing game sucks.

Uhhhhh, so did LSU's. Not only the Oline, but the running game followed with improvements....but the passing game got worse. Please explain.

Yes, subtle differences are normal, but OSU didn't change the look or identity of their offense. The qb had to rise up instead of the offense having to slow down, period

AJ would make me really nervous in that formation.

Why? Would give him even longer to stare down Dural.

It doesn't matter if they are happy or not, Les ain't going anywhere until his contract is up.

And this had us in the hunt until that abortion against Bama

Not that I'm defending our horrible QB development, it MUST get better.

That's the problem

True but this is the most vocal he's been since I can remember about the QB play being a real problem. Maybe he heard the pathetic offense brought up several times during his interviews for a DC. Defensive coaches pay attention to what you do on offense, and that does figure into their consideration for the job.

True...buyout is too high. He wants to win, just has a hard head!

that he doesn't want to throw the ball. There is a difference between wanting to do something and thinking you can actually do it. last year we couldn't do it.

I know we were screwed the instant I saw us trying to execute a screen pass and we couldn't even execute bubble screens. it got better at years end but daham I have never seen a college offense that threw the ball so poorly.

when harris imploded at auburn I also knew we had little chance at top success. either AJ had to improve dramatically real quick and develop arm strength (virtually impossible) or BH had to grow up and learn our offense.

the rest of the story continues in 2015. at least AJ has improved and cam has started running more types of plays. we should be an improved team next year and can be damn good if BH steps up big time.

CLM went with the best chance to win the games. The best chance just wasn't that good

So he says this AFTER the season. Then why would you play one of the worst statistical qbs in LSU recent history.
They made up their mind early that we weren't going to throw much and it showed.
Compare that to OSU where they keep the same offense, but demand the next qb step up and perform instead of dumbing down the entire offense.
So they go from Miller, to the next guy and to the next guy....And on film you couldn't tell anything had changed.
You really can't protect a player or hide his faults in big boy football. You recruit guys you like, and when their # is called, you let them play like you expect. Set them free and decide if they are capable. I don't care if you have to go to a walk on, try and find the guy who can play, period.
We lost 5 games, what did we gain by handcuffing the offense?

Holy shite

Yea they're trying to run a complicated offense with a freshman and sophomore at QB. Just do what other teams do and don't make your guys have to learn all of that from under center. Not all the time anyways. It can't hurt to go shotgun and run a spread type play every damn now and then.

Sometimes the QBs just need to have a little success to build confidence.

last year week end and week out Miles told everyone we would see Beckwith after a horrible Welter performance, every week this year he said we would see B Harris after another horrible AJ performance. Yea like I believe anything that Les Miles says.

He's definitely feeling heat from TAF and some of the bigger donors. Hopefully this spark puts him back where he needs to be and he gets us another natty.

The comparison to LSU is tOSU stayed in the gun and ran zone read with all three QBs. LSU complicates things by insisting the QB go under center and run I formation. This causes the LSU QBs to learn 3/5/7 step drops and reading a defense while dropping back. Which is hard to do

BOOM!

we try to run a pro style offense.

IF we can be proficient at it, great.

our problem is that we either cant develop and/or recruit qbs to run it.

its much harder on qbs than what we see in columbus, eugene, auburn, etc.

les needs to do some soul searching on this because if we cant get a jamarcus russell, matt flynn or mettenberger type to play qb here and develop then we are screwed.

apparently we can develop them (mettenburger) and even make a decent qb out of players like lee (it took a while), but we have to recruit guys that have the ability to play that way. jennings sure as hell doesnt. maybe harris does, but we might be better off letting cam do what he did with randle-el at indiana.

Cam made a few comments before the bowl game about how trying to force AJ and BH to play a pro style offense was a mistake. He also said they were going to change the offense to fit them, which we saw glimpses of in the last two games. We can only hope they don't stop there, but overhaul the entire playbook instead of just sprinkling in a few plays. There's nothing wrong with running some I. We just need to vary the offense to bring balance and get these QBs comfortable.

Many of us don't watch a lot of Ohio State. However, I can assure you what we saw against Bama and Oregon wasn't exactly what they ran the rest of the year. They changed things up to fit what Jones is capable of, and it worked perfectly. That's what I want to see Cam do this offseason. FWIW, he managed to do this in the past with Antoine Randle-El at Indiana. The offense wasn't the problem when he was there. Hopefully he can convince Miles to let him do it again.

im with ya. i really dont care what type offense we run, i just wanna win some damn ball games.

if we cant bring in players that we can develop into proficient pro style qbs, then we need to hang it up.
