I remember it vividly. About to play for a SEC title, Herbstreit breaks Miles to Michagan, confirmed with sources. The internet explodes. Every sports and local new outlet is running it.

I imagine the team, sitting in the hotel doing last min prep, sees the stories and is deflated. "Why should we go out there and bust our asses?"

And then...

Imagine you're a player and you watch your coach go on tv and basically give the finger to ESPN. You go out with a backup QB and light up Tennessee. It was a good day to be a Tiger fan.

94-24. 2 SEC titles. 1 NC. 10+ wins in 6 of 8 seasons with the opportunity to make it 7 of 9,

We love to look at Bama/Saban. The Rant has tremendous penis envy for T-Town. But lets remember, it took ten years for Bama to be dominant again after Bear left, and then came the NCAA sanctions, bad hires, and long years until Saban got there.

The reality is, we are lucky. The odds of getting a coach that makes your program successful, and hiring a coach immediately after that continues that level of success are slim to none. It just doesn't happen. It didn't happen for Bama. It didn't happen for Florida. It still hasn't happened for Michigan, Notre Dame, or USC.

If Texas does hire Saban, it looks like they will be betting the farm that Saban can come in and make them instantly successful. The amount of money they are going to spend (reportedly) is damn near absurd. More power to them.

But still, Tiger Fans, I'm happy to have this guy. I really am.

Because it never gets old.

I think this year was a big one that speaks to Miles as coach. If he wins 10 games this year after all the talent we lost on defense and bringing in Cam Cameron, I consider it a good year.

BOOM!!!!

I don't know if there is a program around that won a BCS title with one coach, have that coach leave for the pros, hire a new coach, and have that new coach come in and win another BCSC to help LSU continue to be one of the most dominate programs in college football for over a decade.

In all likelihood, Bama will not instantly hop right back into the level of success they've been enjoying. It just doesn't happen. Theres no guarantees that Saban will be instantly successful in Austin if he goes. It took him a couple of years to right the ship in BR and in T-town (remember UAB and ULM)? How do you think the folks in burnt orange would handle a loss to Rice?

Folks, we are the exception. When Les does eventually leave or retire, theres no guarantee we'll continue on with our winning ways. Be happy and enjoy it, Tiger Fans.

This thread has a want to compete. And that is certainly something that can be enjoyed.
