I thought it was more a good play by the DB than an awful throw. It wasn't a GREAT throw and was a little short.

Actually it was a GREAT play by the DB and a lucky one as well.

The throw was not perfect and probably should have been thrown away considering that the receiver was covered like a glove.

If it was a well-rehearsed play with one of our great - and tall - WRs going up for it, it would have been a TD - or at least an incompletion.

Ridley was not the guy for that situation.

first of all...that was not a fade route. Secondly, when Lee let the ball go, Ridley was open. Ball was in the air for too long and TN kid made an NFL caliber play on it.

Hats off to play call and UT player.

If I'm Ridley, I tackle the guy once I realize he's got position on me.

threw to wrong shoulder, based on where the defender was.

tough to complete, even if it were thrown better, ie,
to the left and a bit closer to the goal line, so the O player has the advantage, and the D player is on his backside.

it's not just you…why not run the ball??? And, if you insist on going over the top on 1st down, at the very least, toss it up to someone who is taller than 6'1". THAT WAS THE MOST RETARDED PLAYCALL I HAVE EVER SEEN. But, I expected it from Miles/Crowton

Lee has to put that on the outside shoulder.

Ridley is too short to call that play form the 9 yard line. Whether it was meant to be a fade or not it had to be from that distance. It was a stupid play call on 1st down when the running game was working and instead we throw to one of our shorter players who hasn't caught a pass over 2 yards all season?

Given the fact that they couldn't stop Ridley out of the I-formation I say it was a bad call! Just let the guy do what he does, run!

Also, on that play it appears he faked the quick pitch to him then lobbed it in the end zone. The play may have resulted in a TD had he actually pitched it to him.

not a bad call, he just should have thrown it in the student section. tennessee defender had very good coverage and didn't buy the trickeration.

good call, Lee just underthrew it (which he even acknowledged).

I agree with prev. posts stating Lee should start AND continue throughout. He has more command of the situation. JJ got lucky with shotty defense on the first play. Lee is a better pocket presence, but having said that, he will still throw interceptions.

BAD CALL. We were running well. We choose to have a QB who needs more reps, throw to a back who is not experienced in the nuances of adjusting on his route. PLAY THE DAMN ODDS. If you MUST use a surprise call, use a running play with a little trickeration in it.

jwill,

I totally agree with you as this was a terrible play call. Everyone in the thread mentions that it was thrown to the wrong shoulder.....which is correct. However, to put a player who hasn't had meaningful snaps in nearly a season and a half in that situation and expect him to execute a perfect throw (yes it would have taken a perfect throw given the fact that he has a defender to deal with, the endzone line and a short receiver who probably cannot battle for the ball) is incredible. Maybe on third down and 9, but not first down........this, as many things just don't make sense.

BTW......I do like the play design.....just not in that situation (down and distance).
