Advocate - LSU Baseball
Left-handed pitcher Jake Latz could join a summer ball team as soon as two weeks, completing what’s been a nearly six-month rehabilitation from a stress reaction in his elbow.
Latz is “feeling great,” Mainieri said. LSU pitching coach Dunn will visit Latz next weekend at his home in Chicago, where the pitcher has been rehabbing since school ended.
“He’ll watch him pitch against hitters in a simulated game,” Mainieri said. “If everything goes well,” Latz will join a summer ball team in Chicago, the coach said. “The progress seems to be coming along.”

I feel like every time we get an update on the kid he's "just a few weeks away." I pray for the kid that this time it's actually the truth

The ceiling for our pitching next season is unbelievably high.

I am not getting my hopes up until I see Latz, in an LSU uniform, pitch in a meaningful regular season game for us.

I really hope Latz can be back 100% by next year. I'm very excited about our pitching staff. So much talent there, and Latz would be a great asset.

Anybody else not want this kid to pitch this summer and let his arm rest?

As bad as I hate to say it, but having Latz or Marshall last year for that Sunday guy, would have easily got us to the promise land.

Good thing because we're going to need it next year

No indeed not! This kid's arm has been resting for months. He desperately needs to get back out there and start throwing a light summer load so that he can recover the muscle memory. You'll see, he's going to suck in summer ball. It's going to take months for him to get velocity back and to get back control of his pitches. He needs to be ready to start in February.
