Thought this deserved its own thread because think it's a good conversation. I see the merit in both arguments. Even though last night went well for us I still like Lange on Fridays going forward. And this is why:

Say you throw Poche in game one, he only makes it five innings, gives up 2 runs and then the bullpen gives up 2 more runs and we end up losing 4-3. Then we throw Lange in game two he pitches a complete game shutout but we belt out 9 runs against their second pitcher. We essentially waste lange's outing and need to win Sunday to win the series instead of having it wrapped won by game 2.

I know it's hypotheticals but that's the way I see it.

Simple:
Win every game.

Problem solved.

If a team beats your best pitcher on Friday night psychologically they should be confident in beating your Saturday starter. You throw Poche Friday and get the win it demoralizes the opponent knowing they face the best picther in the SEC next.

Plus Mainieri will throw who he's comfortable with and that's Poche/Lange. I mean they're 24-2 pitching from this rotation

If you're bull pen gets blowed up on Saturday, you have less guys available Sunday. If it blows up Friday and Lange dominates Sat, then some arms will be available Sunday.

The outing is never wasted. I like my stud pitching on Saturdays.

I guarantee you no other school has a better #2 SP than LSU does on Saturday. That's another advantage.

#2 SP as in pitching Game 2

I'm glad you responded since you had said something in the Friday game thread. And I actually agree with what you've said. I don't think there is a wrong way to do it. I'm also very confident in poche and think more often than not we will win with him on the mound. And tigerdat, you can stfu because I'm not trying be the coach here. Just trying to have an intelligent conversation on a sports message board.

Also I think Shore and Puk from Florida are both better than poche. That's their Friday and Saturday guys.

Lange is currently #2 SP not Poche.

The competition of Friday night pitchers in SEC play is a different animal. You want to win game 1, it sets the table.. you then only need to win 1 of the final 2 after that to get the series..

I prefer Poche as a solid #2 guy vs #2 guys..

Any ways, they are both great pitchers. I just wonder about SEC play..

Outside of Florida and A&M, Poche should be the better arm on Friday nights in the SEC.

Poche has been through the fire of the SEC last year. Mainieri trust him and unless he falls apart he'll stay in that spot.

Your theory will be answered next year - Lange will be the Friday starter.

Ok what if you throw Lange on Friday night against their ace and the young lineup only gets 4-5 hits and 1 run why Lange goes 9 gives up 2 runs 1 earned and you lose the game 2-1 are you not "wasting" a good Lange start? You can play the scenario game all day. The fact of the matter is poche is a very good SEC pitcher that I think can beat any lineup in the country and it doesn't matter which one pitches which day because outside of Florida I don't think there is a better 1-2 in the conference.

I want Lange in Friday

I want the opposing team to question why they are even showing up Saturday

Wouldn't you get the same reaction if poche shits you down on Friday and then you have to turn around and face one of the best pitchers in the country the next day.

I don't care which one is pitching which day. people act like Poche is some scrub. Yes he isn't as good as Lange but he is very good and could be a Friday night guy for most teams in the SEC.

I guarantee you could count on one hand how many schools MAY have a starter as good as Lange if he started on Friday.
