Lady Tigers 74, Mizzou 65......LSU Continues to Roll!

The Lady Tigers continued their hot play of late, with a 74-65 victory over Mizzou last night. The ladies built a twenty point lead only to see that lead evaporate to a one point deficit late in the second half. However, what was good was seeing the ladies dig deep and still pull out the win. This type of game will serve us well as the season continues. What looked like a wasted season a month ago, is now turning into one of Caldwell's best coaching jobs.
Moncrief (21 pts) and Ballard (16 pts 11 reb) continue to be the catalyst but, they're also getting contributions from a different teammate each night. Rina Hill continues her improvement scoring ten points last night. Here's the summary and video highlights..........
Lady Tigers Continue Winning Ways!
Let's also take time to give kudos to Sheila Boykin, who is really our only senior post player. Considering all she's been through, she's really playing well. Check out the writeup by Lee Feinswog if you don't know her story......
Boykin A Walking Miracle
P.S. I haven't seen secman12 in quite some time.

Pretty incredible the midseason turnaround. I know they got Ballard back, but still impressive. They were about as bad as can be early in the season.

Yes, it is wonderful to see the WB season being turned around. Ballard is clearly our best player and we had missed her. I noticed that defensively she often plays low to the basket and be guarding far taller opponents--and does so effectively. She is a wonderful player!
Thanks to LSUSportsnet, I 'm able to follow WB so far away from BR.

Maybe they can teach our men's team how to make pressure FTs.

Next 2 games: at Auburn (0-9 in SEC) on Thursday
Alabama (1-8 in SEC) at home on Sunday.
Alabama's only win was by 1 point over Auburn
We should be 8-3 and either in 3rd/4th place in the league by the end of the week.

It is easy to underwhelm when you lose 3 starters between seasons then have to suspend the 4th for half the season. I'd rather give credit for taking a bunch of players who hadn't played a lot of minutes and who were struggling and keeping the ship from sinking altogether.

God this expression is played out….

When they went to OT with Jackson State tied at 44-44 back in November and nobody knew if Ballard would return, this looked like a team that could go 10-20 and win maybe 2 SEC games.

what are their chances of making the womens tourney? I don't really follow womens BBall at all.

Pretty high actually.

The chances are pretty good, actually, as long as they continue to take care of business. Outside of having to go to #1 South Carolina next week, the schedule is VERY favorable.
They should be 8-3 in the SEC and 14-9 overall by the end of the week assuming they beat Auburn and Alabama, the two worst teams in the league. Then they go to SC, which we will assume as a loss. That would leave them at 8-4 and 14-10 with 4 games left. Those 4 games are:
Georgia at home (ranked team, 5-4 in SEC currently, but lost best player to a broken leg)
at Arkansas (3-6 in SEC currently)
at Ole Miss (4-5 in SEC, we beat them by 29 last week)
Texas A&M at home (5-3 in SEC, we lost to them by 7 at their place in Ballard's 2nd game back)
Getting 3 of those last 4 is very realistic and would leave record at 17-11 and 11-5. That puts them solidly on the good side of the bubble..and a win at the SEC tournament for good measure should do the trick.

Going to have to improve our RPI a little though. It's all the way down around 80.

It really is good to see them picking back up I've only seen a few games and the difference from the beginning of the year and now is incredible.

THIS.
I am confident that the wins will continue to occur but the RPI does worry me.
As of this morning, the NCAA RPI has LSU at 76.
The BAD: 5 of the wins are vs. teams with RPI of 282 or worse (SLU, Sam Houston, UCSB, Jackson St, and UNC Greensboro) and there was a loss to #211 (Santa Clara)
The GOOD: 3 wins vs. the top 50 (#11 Kentucky, #34 Miss. St., and #44 Vanderbilt.)
RPI of remaining opponents:
Auburn 143
Alabama 151
South Carolina 7
Georgia 31
Arkansas 51
Ole Miss 97
Texas A&M 28
So after the next 2 games, there are some chances for some good wins.

Our only definite loss is USCe
Georgia and A&M we have a chance, they are at home and we are playing just as good as anyone right now. I expect us to reach the NCAA Tournament. What a dramatic turn around from the beginning of the season.

I think if they finish top 4 in the SEC RPI won't matter and there's no way they're getting left out.

I would like to believe that. The selection committee is "supposed" to take into account special situations involving losing/gaining players to injury/suspension during the year. LSU was 7-7 without Ballard (she came back for the 3rd SEC game). If LSU goes 10-4 with her, that should tell the committee that LSU is a worthy team and should get the benefit of the doubt…
On the flip side, Georgia ran up a good record before losing their best player to a broken leg a little over a week ago. If they implode in February, which is entirely possible, that injury should hurt their seeding in March.

I believe this as well.
I've been watching SEC women's basketball for going on 20 years now and no team that has finished in the top 4 in the conference, has ever been left out of the NCAA tournament.
If we finish in the top four, we WILL get in...........regardless of RPI (which at that point would probably be top 50 anyway). The question would be the seeding at that point.
