There is very little creativity in the rushing offense. A couple of jet sweeps here and there does not make a "creative" offense. The defenses aren't even reacting to the random pre snap motion that LSU fans lost their minds over against BYU.

If we aren't running a jet sweep it is a run straight up the middle.

At least in the old offense, there were toss sweeps, toss powers and variations of those runs with misdirection.

Everyone hated that offense because they thought it was just running it up the middle. Canada's lsu offense is the true "run it up the middle" offense.

Possible panic button time for our running game.

In reality, this offense isn;t much different from the last. The difference is motions and shifts added to it.

We are back at square one

This isn't the first time that a Matt Canada offense (Specifically running game) has been shutdown. Virginia Tech tore his scheme up while he was at NC State.

Unfortunately, the power running game is all the offense seems to be able to do well.

I do agree with you though. The running game concepts are simple. The most exotic thing they do is run to the unbalanced side of the formation.

I like the quick hitting sweep that Dillon scored on (called back with penalty). Need to see a little more of that in the hands of the playmakers (not Gage).

I agree with you in regards to a putrid passing offense but the last offense was a MUCH better rushing team.

I am possibly overreacting to the little sample size we have, I just don't like what we are seeing as a whole with the running game so far.

yes...was thinking same thing....this looks eerily familiar.
I haven't been too impressed with anything about MC's offense so far.

Oh Canada! wasnt hired to run an even more less creative offense than the Miles/Cameron scheme.

I threw up in my mouth once we went down three scores Saturday and haven't got the taste out of my mouth since.

So I am liking them about that much

The blueprint for shutting down his offense was already out there. I just didn't think a team like MSU would be able to do it so flawlessly.

I'm not worrying about the running game. We still hit them for 5 ypc. But I do agree that everything is between the tackles. Going outside some would be helpful.

If you look at Canada's ENTIRE career, not just last year at Pitt. his offense's haven't been bad but they aren't special either. I was optimistic about the hire but last year at Pitt was fools gold

So we ran some power concepts, with and without lead.

Some trap plays, some straight ahead.

We ran inside, and outside.

We ran the jet sweep 4 times, 2 to each side, faked in numerous times.

Both DW and DG avg'd more than 5 ypc.

LBs had trouble filling holes and stopping runs at LoS. We're very active 3 yds past LoS, with very little OL push.

RBs had 3 rec, DW was the leading reciever in yds.

Considering we only had 58 plays total, 1/2 of them runs (hence a pretty small sampling) I'd say there was plenty of variety.
