SS has priority over the entire infield. I like to see him go make the play if he can
ETA: You also don't know if maybe smith has told Kramer to call him off if he can. A-Rod hated catching popups and had Jeter get every one he could get to.

No. He should go make the play if he has an easier catch.

Actually for the 16 yrs I played baseball I was always told SS has priority over the entire infield. It never was taught based on who has the easier catch...bc usually SS has the best glove on the team and is who ya want fielding the ball. I guess I just don't know shite, tho. You must be the most knowledgeable poster on TR. I'm honored to be in your presence.

It is frowned upon for the SS to call people off for no reason, especially if he has a more difficult play.

Now you know. You're welcome.

ETA: Try to use a little common sense, please.

It might be frowned upon afterward because he made a bad decision but SS still can call anyone off. Two things that can be mutually exclusive.

Don't be obtuse

I never said the SS couldnt call anyone off. In fact, In my earlier post I specified that he could.

I started the thread because it was a bad decision. That is fact.

The rest of you are on your period.

That is an easier catch for the shortstop. Popups directly at you are actually really tricky. You don't have a good angle to judge the trajectory of the ball.

He made the catch, thus it was a good decision. Also, as he is tracking the ball, he has no idea if someone else has a good read on it. He is looking up at the ball, not over at Smith.

You really should stop. You clearly don't have much experience playing the game.
