Kind of feel bad for all the players that’ll be processed over the next few months

They came in when we had only 39 scholarship athletes. They helped build up the roster so we could compete the last two years and now have to be show the door. Everyone is sticking around for the bowl in the age of opt outs and transfer portal too. I get it’s a business but damn that sucks for the players that poured their heart and soul into the program. Thank you to them

Maybe Kelly is using the bowl as an interview for them for other teams.

Everyone who ends up leaving will be better off somewhere else.

You do know that Scholarships are year to year, right? Nothing to feel bad about it, they are grown folks. You see the portal, a complete staff and school “poured their heart and soul into these players!” Everyone gets the same chance, it’s what you do with it.
I remember a reporter asking a former LSU Football HC, “How many kids do you graduate?” His reply, “All that wants to!”
I often say, for many kids, it’s the off the field stuff that gets you.

Yep, not everyone is an SEC player. I have two good friends that were WalkOns at LSU, the only two from that class that started and finished together. One played in the NFL the other went on to be a Dr.

They came to LSU to play football at the highest level. None did so for an education.

If they came in when we only had 39 scholarship players and still find themselves buried on the depth chart or not SEC quality as a starter...they at least got the chance.

Now if they still have football aspirations they need to go somewhere where they can continue to play, be coached, and improve

LSUs 1st responsibility is to uphold the standard of the school in terms of performance.

Feel for the average Joes of the world who are processed every day. Actual jobs that put food on their tables.

If meaningful game time is their priority then they will go to other colleges to get it. The fact is that a very small percentage of players are good enough to play football professionally.

If they truly love LSU they will stay and pursue degrees.

This isn’t as common in the days of NIL

You know a large percentage of guys who enter the portal end up without a scholarship. I think it was 40% last year, it's been over 50%. Although I do think most SEC transfers will land elsewhere unless they are an academic or behavioral problem.

Come on man, of course, there is something to feel bad about, they had their dreams shattered.

It's OK to feel bad for someone even when the outcome was predictable or necessary.

Not everyone has the same potential. The kid could be busting his butt and doing everything right and still be processed. At some point talent will win out, those are the guys to feel bad for.

Kind of a trite statement, though not wrong. Perhaps a little less nuanced than reality though. Life can short-circuit or delay the strongest of desires. Persistence does usually pay off though.

That is true but the OP is primarily talking about kids who need to be moved off simply to get better players on the team.

What is different? Life goes on.
Survival of the fittest is in athletics as well as life. Its just quicker in athletics.
Wade's team or Mac's team?
Which would you rather pay to see?
Mulkey's team or Fargas' team?

Of course there is something to feel bad about, and the OP did a nice job expressing it. There are kids who dreamed of being Tigers and probably making it to the NFL. Those kids are seeing their dreams dashed. These things happen to all of us at some point, but usually that point is so early in life that we just move on to other dreams. These are character defing moments - not really sad in the long run - but they surely must bring melancholy moments in the near term. TYFYS

I only bring up the point of think about your Myles Brennans who fought to stay on the team (although the portal didn’t work for him). He’s an example of being processed and it sucks.

I want the best product on the field and believe in competition. Just sucks for some who are gonna be shown the door because the 2024 talent has a higher expectation than the 2022 talent.

They should be happy they got the opportunity to play at LSU. Most will be at much smaller programs once they are processed.

Doesn't "processed" mean they get listed with a fake career ending injury and get to stay in school?

Might be a blow to their ego but not a bad deal. And if they feel they can still play they can try to catch on at a G5 school.

Lindsey Scott is the perfect example. Kid worked in and out of the class room Ivy League waiting. LSU calls at the final hour because we didn’t take a QB. Kid grew up here and dreamed of wearing the purple and gold. Can’t remember where he finished but I remember kind of pissed he signed. Thought if we didn’t want him the entire time why come now and pass on a piece of paper that opens doors everywhere.
