Tackling priority varies from coach to coach, just like any other fundamental skill. Those who make it a priority will work on it often, and those that don't won't.

tackling's just getting a lot harder because offenses are getting a lot better at putting players in space and mixing it up. Simply harder to tackle a guy when there's more variability on where he can go.

100%. I grew up watching Jordan all through middle school and played high school ball in the early 90s (Lester sent us home in the playoffs in OT my junior year). All any of us wanted to do was drive, dunk, and shoot pull up midrange where we outjumped the defender.

Kids emulate what they see as cool. I freaking wish we valued sure tackling and stripping the ball more than big shoulder hits.
