my point: THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SCHEME LSU RUNS. our execution has been lacking but seems to be getting better.

Yes there is, but going all out spread isn't the issue. LSU's issues are that they aren't dominant enough to run over teams anymore. The arms race is not unbalanced like it used to be with other teams have as much or possibly more talent.

The offense needs to be variable, meaning it needs to have creativity injected into it. This is the same crap every year, and while a true all out spread isn't going to be great against every defense, having teams back on their heels and unsure of what is coming is what LSU lacks. Plain and simple.

Even with Mett, OBJ, Landry and Hill last year, LSU got shut down by Bama after they wore down and nearly got shut down by a bad Arkansas team.

LSU doesn't have a decided advantage in talent, and that is where this offense stops working unless you are creative and have a legit QB.

Keep in mind that we are "growing" QBs along with a few other positions. Regardless of what anyone wants to say, we're in a rebuilding year. You have to have a decent line before any of your skill players can have any success. We're headed in the right direction, but aren't there yet. Overall, I am seeing steady progress, even if it is a little slow. The progress may not always reflect on the score board this year, but it is there. Next year might not be super, but should be better than this year. 2016 is the year that I would have the higher expectations. It really makes no difference what scheme you run out of, the team still has to learn to play their individual positions with few mistakes and on top of that, they also have to learn to play as a unit. LSU is a work in progress.

It's not either or issue, I think most want to see the play calling by dynamic and geared towards the strength of the personnel in the game.

Hopefully as the QB matures, he will learn to see the overall field and those open receivers. When you line is not hitting on all cylinders, the QB really does not have a lot of time to look right now.

Jennings is a "deer in the headlights" right now. I think he has been stunned by the fear of screwing up and he is too hesitant now. I noticed last night that he is holding the ball too long or waiting for receivers to get waaaaay open. He has not made many quality throws on timing routes over the middle or backshoulders. He would be better off counting to three and taking off running. I see why the coaches are not calling many pass plays...

Exactly what happened to JJ. He refused to throw up risky passes, and while he had less INTs than say Lee, he took an inordinate amount of sacks which can be just as crippling. LSU ranked 105th in 2009 (his year starting and playing pretty much every game).

Jennings has taken 13 sacks to Harris' 3 given playing time does affect that. While sacks are generally better than INTs, they can kill an offense just as much as INTs.

Also, people aren't looking for a spread offense, but hell one like that in 2006 or 2007 is more what people would like to see. A more open offense with creative playcalling that uses all the positions. While that takes an experienced QB, it also keeps teams from just stacking the box.

No problem with having a great running attack. But when teams stack 8 or 9 in the box, you have to burn them. It is that simple

Troy Aikman said during the Saints broadcast that they routinely ran against 8-man fronts. He said that if they hadn't, Emmit Smith wouldn't be the all-time rushing leader.

I do agree with you that we need to be less predictable on 1st down. Stangely, against Auburn in our 1st 3 series, we ran up the middle on 1st down and got 6-8 yards each play. The problem was on 2nd down...

He is correct. The only problem I have personally is the style of players which are recruited are not designed to run this system. Recruiting all HS spread offense players and then running primarily Power I is what frustrates many.

They are kids and they can learn a new system.
Its not like Harris can't learn to take a snap between center.

shite there are kids who come out of all sorts of weird systems in high school and make the transition fine.

How many high schools do you think run the 3-4, but that doesn't stop kids from converting in that system.

It just takes longer for a QB. but a lot of that is just adjustment.

This thread's actually going very well. At this writing there are 40 up and 15 down votes to the OP. That shows that the reasonable fans are about 70 to 75% of the total. Less than 30% are the shrill anything-but-what-we're-doing-now types.

for you guys just cryin' to adopt the spread running the football is where it's at. sure, you need a passing game too but if you can't run the football you aren't going to beat the top teams.

There are lots of ways to run the ball also that include some deception and misdirection. It's not only that we run the ball way too much, but the predictability of those run formations and runs.

You are one racist POS. You have got to be BRAVEHEART or his kid. From your recruit only "up north" o-linemen to "Run Real Fast" and who ran off the ones that couldn't "Run Real Fast", why don't you be a man and quit the code words, you simpleton POS. Go be a fan of hockey or kegling, you will be a much happier person and can't blame losses on the "others".

that is a ridiculous stat. however, since the game was really never in doubt, i'd like to think Cam wasn't giving Freeze and Womack anything to study.

but this place has made me so jaded, i don't honestly believe that. But, i'd like to.

having to replace starting QB, starting RB plus another RB to NFL, and one of the most dynamic starting WR tandems in LSU history to the NFL as early defections, how can anyone say, "LSU isn't in a rebuilding year?"

We lost every single starter at the skill positions. I'd say that is the definition of rebuilding.
