No. He was supposed to be a major part of our backfield.

The portal is fricking ridiculous.

Why the hell would a guy after 1 season and playing a good bit as a freshman give up?

Maybe it's off the field stuff? Grades, disciplinary, etc.

Yeah, I wonder what the story is here. From the outside it looked like he'd get quite a bit of playing time this year and then have a really good shot at replacing Fulton for 2020.

It really is. I think he would do well to slide back to safety. Delpit's gone after this season likely and Joseph has the range and physicality to be a very good safety.

I have been told this is a way for them to test the waters. Enter the portal, hear about other opportunities. If you like them, go. If not, withdraw from the portal.

Some programs are starting to impose rules around this. For example, Pat Narduzzi at Pitt yanks a kid's scholly if they enter the portal.

Plus, we don't ever really know what's going on behind closed doors. LSU does still have too many scholarship players. Perhaps O told Joseph he is behind and he should explore options. Perhaps Joseph is just being an entitled player. Perhaps it's somewhere in between.

That sucks. I figured he would play a good bit this season and compete to be a starter next year.

He sat out the bowl game due to grades. I wonder if he might not qualify academically next year and doesn’t want to do the summer course work he needs to get on the field.

Sounds like grades issues ... hoping he can work it out and stick around, big fan of the kid and his potential.

I think we’re going to start seeing more of this. The NCAA tried to give the kids a two way out. The coaches can shut that shite down if they choose to.

Makes sense. But it also essentially promotes legal tampering. It also may be used as a element of leverage for an unhappy player. I'm not speculating that is what is going on here, but a guy may not be happy being a backup, so he enters the portal in an effort to force his coach to start him, give him more minutes, etc.

It also may just be reactionary kids getting angry and making a rash decision. It's my understanding they don't have to get approval from a coach to "enter the portal".

Did anybody else notice the Joseph tweet to smart saying, “Keep that same energy”? Not sure what it was referring to but that phrase can go two ways.
