He said during the bowl game that we would have ten of eleven in the bowl game. I know that much for a fact . Maybe he said the same about next year too but I didn’t hear that

Andre Sam would be the guy he was saying wouldn’t be back in what you quoted. So he thought we would get the d tackles to comeback or he was talking about the number of guys that would be eligible to come back

That's my point, don't say 10/11 are returning when it's only 7/11. Then there was also the chance to lose Ryan as well.

There's no reason to even give a number if you aren't completely sure.

Underpromise and overdeliver.

Maybe with his injuries Wingo wasn't one of the top 11 by snap count.

I don’t think that he even thought too much about it and I honestly think he was more talking about the bowl game at first and it morphed into him talking about retention in general.

His point being that we were young and we would have a lot of guys back which is true

We were taking numbers on defense to right the ship, relative to our defensive structure last year. We’re not going to have to do that. We’re counting 10 of our 11 players with the most snaps coming back next year. Some may say that’s not a great thing, but we think it is because we have experience. We didn’t have that last year.”

Damn.

support Kelly a ton and he has done great but not sure why we say stuff like this unnecessarily if we aren't 100% sure. That's Ed O territory.

Youre just looking for things to complain about, none of that is important.

Where are you getting 7 of 11?

quote:

Major Burns, Greg Penn III, Harold Perkins, Andre' Sam, Sage Ryan, Maason Smith, Sai'vion Jones, Omar Speights, Zy Alexander, Bradyn Swinson and Jordan Jefferson make up the top 11 snap getters for the Tigers this season, according to Pro Football Focus.

quote:
Sam, Speights and Jefferson are not eligible to return in 2024. But assuming that Kelly's calculations don't include players who can't come back for another year, Mekhi Wingo, Javien Toviano and Whit Weeks would be the next three players in terms of highest snap count who are eligible to return

Burns, Penn, Perkins, Ryan, Jones, Alexander, Swinson, Toviano and Weeks are players returning. Thats 9. Smith and Wingo are only ones not returning that could have. Thats 11. He said 10 out of 11 so he was 1 off.

quote:

That's my point, don't say 10/11 are returning when it's only 7/11.

Are you mad over semantics? Kelly was obviously talking about eligible players returning unless you think he doesnt know that Sam, Speights, and Jefferson were out of eligibility. Im confused on what this fuss is about.

That’s what I’m saying. Plus the fact that he was talking about the bowl game right before that . I assumed he was talking about the bowl game. I guess I was wrong

But I also believe his point was retention and how young we were overall.
We played a ton of young guys and really all we lost was two guys and I think he planned on one guy leaving early.

Or he didn’t and was talking about Sam but why even bring up guys out of eligibility
