I actually like Coach PM's Johnny Wholestaff approach to our non-conference mid-week games with the pitching staff. While you want to WIN, these games are not as critical as the SEC Games. Plus, great evaluative opportunity for the relief pitchers, and they all get some work in prior to the weekend games.

They are great at boosting confidence of our in-state teams when they come in and beat us. Pretty honorable of Coach.

He seems to need more time to evaluate his bullpen arms, which is the only reason I'm okay with it.

The problem is we, nor pretty much any other team, has 4 reliable, quality starters.

Hess was more than an average 4th starter. The issue was PM wanted more innings to evaluate his bullpen, because Hess was going deep into games.

I agree with Josh. Hess is more than qualified as a 4th starter and you will see him start down the line if LSU gets to that point in say an SEC baseball tournament or Regional. You could almost slot Gilbert as a 5th starter as well.

I've never liked the concept.

It has both worked and bombed in the past but what it doesn't do is develop starters.

How much time does he need to evaluate his pitchers? Heck, we are 2/3 of the way through the season.

That would be risky and too big of a gamble
