I remember one time Dale Brown let us get hammered for a streak because a tv timeout was coming. He got ripped for it.

With CJJ, it's every game.

I think Jones has used his timouts much more wisely this year. There have been multiple games where he has used all his timeouts. This personally is the last thing anyone watching the games should be complaining about.

I specifically remember him using 1 during an 8-0 Ole Miss run but in the second half I guess he could have used them more. Still, I'd be much much more pissed about him allowing this team to not cycle the ball thru Blakeney all second half than his use (or lack-thereof) of timeouts.

Yeah, Blakeny was having a career night and the last 10 minutes or so he's like the invisible man.

Well in the last 6 minutes of a close game that's when you call a timeout (we had 3 of them left) and say in the huddle, "Hey Rookies, you see this guy sitting right here? This is Antonio. He has 29 points tonight. None of you need to take a shot until he has touched the ball. If the defense focuses completely on him, he might be able to pass it to you when you are wide open and then you can shoot. But do not shoot until he has had a chance to touch the ball."

Or, if you had a set offense you could just ask the guys to work through the offense, but Johnny really doesn't have a set of cuts and passes that many would consider an offensive set.

And this is something I agree with, I just don't think calling timeouts has been as big of an issue this year as in years past. I think he has done a very good job this year, but I can understand the frustrations of the second half last night.

The OP did a very poor job of establishing what this thread was about. I responded saying that I think Jones has been much, much better this year utilizing his timeouts. About the only thing he's done well this year IMO.

I did see an effort this year to use a few timeouts in the first half if the other team was making a run. In the past Johnny thought it was a mortal sin to use a timeout in the first half.

I have to admit though, I haven't watched many games since the losing streak got rolling.

For many games (but not all), I think CJJ has used his TO's in a more timely manner than in prior years.

But, the plays, execution, and/or results that come out of his TO's is still severely lacking. Because this is a persistent problem, I would think the blame should be on coaching rather than on the players. But, what do I know?

Time for a coaching change.
