You can pretty much squarely place this on the NCST game choke

He was getting shite on before then, and not just ESPN. some gems from Pat Forde

FRAUDULENT FIVE

Teams from power conferences that won't last as long they hope to:

LSU (22). Inexpertly coached team has lost to Auburn twice, and Missouri, Clemson and Tennessee once. Tigers staggered sideways into the field after losing half of their final 12 games. They don't handle the ball – or pressure situations – very well.

The following was written BEFORE the tournament:

Worst Case: Team that should have been an 11 seed at best after nine – yes, nine! – losses to non-tournament opponents blows a great opportunity. In latter stages of a tight game with North Carolina State, LSU guards completely forget they have two NBA frontcourt players on the floor and jack up an array of bad shots. On the sideline, Johnny "Wooden" Jones offers no correction, instruction or guidance. Mickey and Martin try wearing name tags saying "Hi, My Name is…" but it doesn't work. Tigers score four points in the final seven minutes and cough up the game. Les Miles sticks up for Jones, saying that in-game coaching is less important than "want" and "chest," and the Tigers had plenty of that. Mickey and Martin both turn pro before the sweat on their uniforms is dry.

If he wins the game everything is different, ESPECIALLY if he goes on to beat Villanova which I believe we would. That's my point.

He didn't win though( I think they would have beat Villanova too), and it didn't surprise anyone, national media and LSU fans. It was not a fluke, it was a trend. I like Johnny, he just isn't a very good basketball coach. Just getting players, he has raised LSU basketball to the football equivalent of Ole Miss, where they make a little noise every once in a while, but will never win anything meaningful. And that's ok with our AD, so I try not to get to upset about it, but sometimes still do

That has to be on the player to get them up in his free time.Absolutely, I made the same comment earlier.
I've always felt that if a player wants to improve they can but it's on them. They have to put in the time an then more on their own, not just do the bare minimum.

[quote]As far as CJJ not developing Simmons, that has yet to be seen.

From what I've seen and heard, Simmons is self-motivated, unselfish and is far ahead developmentally of most we've seen here under Johnny.

He needs to work on his perimeter jumper he will. But so much of the instinctive basketball genetics is there. His has a high motor, high basketball IQ and unbelievable court vision for someone his age. And he handles the ball as well as I've ever seen a guy his size save maybe Magic. I was surprised by that when I saw him in those recent 3 games.

I've got issues with CJJ, and I've not been shy about sharing them here. Developing Simmons won't be something IMHO we have to worry about. That kid will do the work himself. Motivation, which IMHO is one of CJJ's biggest deficiencies...won't come into play with Ben. He doesn't need to be. He is already.

You're really going to argue that Mickey "developed" under Jones. Mickey regressed the second half of this year alone and that was before the shoulder injury. He became a liability every time he put the ball on the floor.
