The continued rumblings about how impressive Joe Burrow has been for the Cincinnati Bengals keep on growing.

Burrow, the top pick, made it clear during the pre-draft process his focus centered on being the best rookie player he could be.

That’s clearly showing up in the all-virtual offseason with coaches and the team. Let offensive coordinator Brian Callahan tell it, coaches have had to ask Burrow to slow down because he’s so far ahead of the groups.

Here’s Callahan, courtesy of Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic:

“Sometimes he would say things early on and I’d say, we are not talking about that right now, let’s just get through what we need to get through here and then we can revisit that later. We will probably answer that question you have in a day or two days or three days because we are not there yet. I know you are, but we’re not.”

While part of this is simply Bengals coaches trying to move some of these meetings along at a rookie pace, another is just Burrow — coaches and scouts around the country often raved about the mental side to his game.

It helps Callahan and Co. have made sure to implement some of Burrow’s favorite LSU plays into the offense. But an early command of pre-snap responsibilities that outpace even what the coaches have planned is a good sign he’ll be plenty ready by the time training camp opens up.

Sounds about right

That's pretty sad on the Bengals, part.

“You don’t need to tell Tua to slow down. Tua knows exactly what pace to go to. The fact Joe Burrow is ahead of everyone else shows why he isn’t ready to be a NFL QB yet. He doesn’t understand the pace he needs to be mentally. That with his small hands is why Tua will be great and he won’t be. Remember He only did it one year at LSU. It’stheherd.”

I'm convinced that's actually a Cowherd quote word for word.

At this point they should just let him call the offense.

He’s probably ahead of the other players amemos talking about stuff they haven’t been assigned yet. Looks good for Joe, obviously, but not necessarily a negative for anyone else, really.

Has it not occurred to any of you that that problem isn't the Bengals or the coaches, but the other rookies, who are having to learn stuff Burrow already knows?

Maybe they should get a real offensive coordinator who can keep up with their quarterback. Just a thought.

I’ll bet every top receiver in the league is trying to find a way to play with him.

Burrow may be that caliber, but the Bengals OL and team aren't anywhere near SB caliber! Let them get out of the divisional cellar first......
