BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU athletic director Joe Alleva, livid that Tom Herman backtracked on an oral agreement to be the next LSU coach, pulled his offer to the Houston coach late Friday night, a high-ranking source close to the search confirmed.

The source said a perturbed Alleva told Herman’s agent, Trace Armstrong, via phone Friday night, “Don’t worry. I have a guy who wants the job.” Ed Orgeron will be introduced as LSU’s new coach at a news conference Saturday.

After LSU lost its home finale to Florida, a group of decision-makers including Alleva, school president F. King Alexander and key members of the Board of Supervisors met and identified Tom Herman as their top target. Herman was “elated” and “surprised it was him over (Jimbo) Fisher,” said the source, who also said there never was a contract offer made to Fisher.

Unreal.

He needs to lose his job no matter how the Orgeron tenure turns out. shite he shouldn't ever have gotten another one after Duke lacrosse crap.

Alleva was that kid that commandeered the play-doh in kindergarten, forcing the other kids to take up bullying, gang-banging, and drugs.

I wonder how the others in the "decision making group" that included Alleva felt about Alleva's actions? Did Alleva consult with them before hanging up the phone with Herman's agent?

Some or half of the big time boosters have to be outraged at this farce, right?

Once the "handshake" was in place the fact that he didn't have a signed document in place, offering LSU protection if something happened is complete incompetence. IE "if during the course of this process the potential coach breaks negotiation and begins negotiating with another university, team, organization etc, the potential coach owes LSU INSERT RIDICULOUS SUM OF MONEY HERE".

Alleva is where the buck starts and stops.
Board of Supervisors back him up and approve contracts as a formality.

Credit Orgeron for Aranda staying on with a new contract and no one else.

He has the say so on who he hires and who he fires as Head Coach.

Not boosters or Joe Alleva.

This was a major business deal and his job was to get it signed, sealed, and delivered. He failed, and it sounds like it may have been due to pride/emotion. These talks always seem to deteriorate in the 11th hour when he is involved.

I can't understand how a guy like that ends up at his current role.

Has no one along the way noticed "You know, 'Ole Joe is quite possibly the weakest negotiator we've ever encountered."??

He thinks he has leverage when he doesn't

He leveraged the Duke Lacrosse team, and got ran out of town for it

He leveraged UF, because he got So Car to do something similar. He was scorched nationally, and his coach ended up blowing the game (AT HOME).

He leveraged the Jimbo offer, thinking Jimbo was desperate to leave. Not that desperate

He leveraged Herman, thinking Strong was staying on. And like an infant caved at $5M, because his widdle feels got hurt
