King Alexander and key members of the Board of Supervisors met and identified Tom Herman as their top target. Herman was “elated” and “surprised it was him over (Jimbo) Fisher,” said the source, who also said there never was a contract offer made to Fisher.

Once the "handshake" was in place the fact that he didn't have a signed document in place, offering LSU protection if something happened is complete incompetence. IE "if during the course of this process the potential coach breaks negotiation and begins negotiating with another university, team, organization etc, the potential coach owes LSU INSERT RIDICULOUS SUM OF MONEY HERE".

Credit Orgeron for Aranda staying on with a new contract and no one else.
He has the say so on who he hires and who he fires as Head Coach.

This was a major business deal and his job was to get it signed, sealed, and delivered. He failed, and it sounds like it may have been due to pride/emotion. These talks always seem to deteriorate in the 11th hour when he is involved.

He leveraged the Duke Lacrosse team, and got ran out of town for it
He leveraged UF, because he got So Car to do something similar. He was scorched nationally, and his coach ended up blowing the game (AT HOME).
